The accidental activist - Lila Lipscomb
A mom from Flint, Mich., tries to 'wake America up.'
By BILL ADAIR, Times Staff Writer
Published July 19, 2004

MILWAUKEE - The crowd at the peace rally began to chant moments after she arrived.

"Lila! Lila! Lila! We love you Lila!"

Lila Lipscomb picked up an American flag and joined the activists in a march to a nearby park, where someone led the crowd in a cheer.

"Give me a B! ... Give me a U! ... Give me an S! ... Give me an H! ... What's that spell?! LIAR!"

It was excrutiating to watch this woman break in Michael Moore's film. Out of the pain emerged an activist.

Go Lila!

1. Her tragedy is heartbreaking to watch
and I love her. She is turning her devastation into something that can actively help her cope; something I could not do after the death of my own son. Her heart will never heal and I applaud her loudly and often for her courage to come to the aid of America in her sorrow. Lila:loveya:

2. The tears started rolling when I read the article.
I can't begin to imagine the strength it takes for her (or any mother who has lost a child) to just get out of bed in the morning, let alone to do what she's doing.

Brave, brave woman.

>She will make more speeches in the coming months. She has been so critical of the Bush administration that she wouldn't be surprised if her house is bugged. When she gets dressed, she sometimes acts as if they are watching and listening, giving a play-by-play as she dons her clothing.

"Look guys," she says. "I'm putting on my bra."<

What a world we live in.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I send a hug from my heart.
