A question about having a house party? |
|
Do I need to register it? I want to have a small one for friends only. And when is the last day you can send in donations?

2. The best way to do it is to set up a computer |

and have your friends contribute online, or provide pre-addressed envelopes with contribution forms, so your friends can write the check and put it in the envelope themselves.
That way, you're not touching any of the contributions, so you don't have to register. (You also can spend up to, I think it's $1,000 on food, invitations, entertainment, if it's in your own house or a community room in your apartment/condo building, without having to register as a committee.)
Bigger parties would probably behoove themselves to call the Kerry campaign for more info -- they might have to fill out a form for a conduit contribution (people hand big checks to you). Conduits are still legal under McCain/Feingold, but the rules are screwy. I believe the deadline's coming real soon -- July 26 or so. After that, you can still have a fundraiser for the DNC or a house/senate candidate.
