Why doesn't Kerry offer Nader a cabinet position...
...in exchange for dropping out of the race and giving his support to the Democratic ticket? If what Nader really wants is for his voice to be heard, then this would seem like a good way for him to get it.

2. He can only do that if he knows Nader will accept it
He asks and Nader says no it's a big hit to his campaign.

Plus from Nader's point of view, how does he know he wouldn't be marginalized after Kerry gets in?

3. Better yet, why doesn't Nader run for the Senate?
I think a Senator Nader would be good for Congress.

4. Could be a good idea.
The flip side is that Nader could consider it half-hearted.

What could he do? Secretary of the Interior?

9. Won't happen. He'd be good though in the FDA or USDA.
Those depts need a serious housecleaning. They are totally in bed with those they are supposed to regulate. It's worse under Bush, but it was bad under Clinton too.

10. That would be a good position for Ralph.
If he's serious about the issues relating to environmental policy, I think that would an excellent position for him. It would be "put up or shut up" time for Ralph.

I'd love to see Kerry make a public quid-pro-quo proposal to Ralph on this....hell, I'd even let Ralph have 10 minutes to speak at the convention, as long as it's focused on a vision to reform and take back the EPA from corporate control.

6. Do we really need a Secretary of Giant Egos?
How about just getting Nadir a wading pool he can sit in all day and say "Look at me! Look at me! Mommy! Look at me!"

12. Nader and teamwork don't get along very well.
In other words, he might be the guy willing to offer the valuable contrarian side, but he might be doing it just to do it, which would eliminate the value. Besides, Nader's narcissism has reached heights that few politicians on the Dem side of things can match. This is probably why he gets along with the GOP so well these days.

15. Oh that's a good idea
Offer him a cabinet post after he helped Bush steal the last election and after taking money from Republicans and openly courting them to help him this time around. He doesn't deserve a Cabinet post, I'm not sure he'd be qualified for one and besides--all he really wants is to be a spoiler. This is his misguided way of leaving a legacy.

16. Nader is an advocate not an adminstrator
There's no indication that he could adminstrate his way out of a paper bag. He doesn't have the temperment or skills or willingness to learn to do such a job.

18. He can't do that
Nader would blow the whistle on his free trade, Israel rallying, occupation continuing, abortion supporting judge nominees, patriot act supporting, neo-con triangulating act.

19. Or a spot in Danbury...
where he could help Martha with the needlework classes.

I agree with the other posters here who say:

He's an egomaniac who can ralk the talk, but can't actually get down to doing the hard work of an administrator.

He's a loner and a loose cannon, and can't be trusted on a team.

If he REALLY gave a shit, he'd run for some other office, like the House or Senate, and try to change the party from the inside.

Why make a fool's bargain with him? Just flush the little turd down the toilet.

21. and appease him?
it'll never happen nor should it. nader seems to have really lost it. he had a lot of glory (well-deserved) back in the day and it seems like he's struggling to hold onto that. i voted for him in 2000 and don't regret it whatsoever, but he's having trouble realizing that the movement is larger than just one man; he needs to drop his ego and drop it fast.

24. Nader is a Republican
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 01:43 PM by EndElectoral
I don't care what he says..actions speak louder than words.

He takes funds from GOP supporters. Get's GOP supporters to sing petitions for him. Knows full well that his running hurts John Kerry, but insists more people who vote for Nader would vote for Bush. If you take his word for it he rallies more Republicans than Democrats. (That's BS and he knows it though)

His goal is simple.

1. Keep Kerry from being elected.
2. Guarantee Bush is elected so he can then rail against environmental policy. It works perfect for him. Keeps him in a job making speeches railing against poor environmental policy. I mena it doesn't help his income if government actually does do something for the environment.
3. He's been bought. He's not a Green Party member. He's egotistical and self serving or he'd throw his support beind Kerry.
4. Why should Kerry be blackmailed into giving Nader a cabinent post especially AFTER the 2000 election and the grief he is trying to create in this one.
5. I used to have great respect for Nader, but I no longer beleive he is acting for the country's good, but for his own self serving purposes.
