A beneficial side effect of F9/11 doing so well
You now have proof that there is a strong market for things that are liberal. I read an interview with the Miami radio station and how they believe caring AAR would be a good thing. He mention F9/11 doing well, when he talked about his expectations for the AAR.

1. There is money in liberal media!
Wow, who'd of thunk it.
This really shows how totally the Right Wing Spin Machine has saturated the minds of America. Nice to see us getting off the canvas, and slipping the rolls of quarters into our gloves...

3. It doesn't even have to be necessarily 'Liberal'..........
media; most would welcome media that wasn't sitting squarely in the 'right' column.

14. I wouldn't even mind that - and welcome to DU

I would just like Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NBC and others to honestly label themselves:

Fox - the far right wing, ultra conservative infotainment network & full time Republican party shills;
CNN - the right wing, conservative network of entertainment & news that shills for Republicans 90% of the time;
MSNBC - somewhere between Fox & CNN.
etc, etc.

at least folks would then know to look elsewhere for fairness & balance.

Welcome to DU chef!

4. Where Is It Ranked This Week?
I only know that I, Robot is #1 and Spiderman2 was #2.

Where is Fahrenheit 9/11 ranked these days, in re box office sales?
I been wondering...

And we need to keep track of how long it stays in the top ten...this could be a record!

Bushie's in T-R-O-U-B-L-E!!

7. It's been #5 for the last couple of weekends-pretty good for a documentary
No one sane expects it to come close to "Spiderman 2" or "I, Robot", big-budget movies made to cash in on summer crowds. It may end up being more profitable, as Moore doesn't have to pay big-name actors or pay for expensive special effects.

8. Thanks For The Info!
#5 is excellent for a documentary, especially seeing as it has been in theatres damn near a month now, hasn't it?

And the number of screens now showing it has near doubled from what it was originally supposed to screen on, hasn't it?

There's MONEY in liberal media!!

5. Now is a great time to write companies who sponsor RW propaganda
and tell them you don't intend to buy/use their products/services until they recognize and sponsor viewpoints more in keeping with what the majority of Americans really stand for and want.

The winger use boycott threats very effectively. Think how fast Whoopee lost her job with Slim Fast! Time to let corporate interest know there are a lot of $$ spending folks out there who want the liberal viewpoint to have venue also!

I am sick and tired of a small but vocal bunch of wingers deciding the parameters of national dialog will be. I am tired of moneyed interests ignoring us!

6. Excellent
Now pppost some lists of who to boycott, and where to write to let them know they are being boycotted.

MoveOn and DU are ideal places to post this sort of info, so we can get the word out. collectively, we CAN make a difference!!

For too long, we on the left have whimpered and whined, and said we couldn't.

Dean was the first to show us we COULD. Now, we need to build on what he started!

Support Kerry/Edwards!!

10. F 9/11 challenges many ideas about the "demand" of movies we see today
Thank you for bringing up this point. The majority of the media we see is status quo. Rarely do we see anything that challenges the status quo. Why is that? Because there is no market for it because people never see it. The logic of the studio heads can be amazing sometimes. The studios claim that they are just providing what the public demands. If that were the case though, there would be no 'surprise hits of the summer' nor would there be 'box office disaters'. If a movie is truly demanded, why does a 20 million dollar marketing campaign have to go along with a movie? Shouldn't people just flock to it if they want it so much?

The majority of the movies that come from Hollywood pound that status quo into peoples' heads. If someone sees enough movies like junior high comedy heavy 'White Chicks', 'Dude Where's My Car?', The American Pie movies, and Tom Greene movies, along with special effects movies like 'I Robot', 'The Hulk', 'Troy', and 'The Day After Tomorrow' their cinematic taste will just be stamped into the cinematic verison of McDonald's. Low quality food that is easy to consume, cheap to produce and highly likely to make its money back.

People become so use to the taste of McDonald's and other simple foods that they squirm at the thought of anything else. People don't like 'art' movies for the same reason a child doesn't like eggplant; the child has never tried eggplant before and doesn't like it for that reason. If someone pushes them toward actually trying it, the first taste can be akward and require a second or third tasting where they might find it delicious or the person could enjoy it but not want to be known as someone who can stomach eggplant.

Hollywood has the audience where they want them and often feels that they can't risk money on a project that relies heavily on great writing and directing with great actors who don't have 'names'. Especially if they end up paving the way for some other studio's success. The art has become business that helps continue a society of mindless entertainment for the masses. Hopefully things can get better.

13. I saw Russert interview Robert Byrd and "Tiny Tim" had....
allowed Byrd to completely speak his mind about Bush.

No disruptions or anything. Maybe, they see that they WILL be dealing with JK next year and for a time, at least, they will have to be nice to us.
