2. Who? What race?
Sorry, but since Tony George has opened up the Speedway to everything but demolition derbies and pretty much sunk USAC with his IRL, CART, etc. I really don't give a shit about the Indy 500.

In fact, I didn't even bother to listen to it this year.

Used to be in times past, the whole month of May was about the Indy 500. 4 days of qualifications, pageants, parades, etc.

Now the drivers come in by private helicopter for their qualifying run, leave right after for another race 1/2 a country away, and show up on race morning fresh and tired from some F-1 race on the other side of the world.

BFD.

3. Hmm, looks like my question wasn't asked
"What have you to do with the White House? Do you drive one of the President's limousines?" :-)

4. Oh, how exciting. He gave Junior a helmet.

After being presented a racing helmet, President George W. Bush talks with Buddy Rice (center, left), the winner of 2004 Indianapolis 500, and his championship team, Rahal/Letterman Racing, during a visit to the South Lawn of the White House, July 19, 2004.

5. Yet another attempt at Sympathetic Magick by Magi Rove!
It works like this: Buddy Rice is a 'winner', and he seems to like President Bush, ergo President Bush is a 'winner'. Like transmits like -- 'winning-ness' can be rubbed off from one to another. This is basic Sympathetic Magick, plain and simple.

It's depressing just how many people instinctively believe this works -- especially since many of those same people would quickly deny believing this if they managed to get their Left Hemisphere operational from time to time.

Sometimes it hits me just how barely above swinging from trees the human race is. This is yet another one of those times.
