Help me find old picture of Nixon
This is a little bit out there, but I have a friend who is working on a master's degree in political science. She is writing a book on how out-of-touch and inappropriate politicians can be, and she wants to use the famous picture of Nixon walking on the beach in his wingtips.

I can find lots of references to the picture on the web--but I can't find the actual pic--or information on the photographer--or news organization (she will of course get all appropriate permissions to reproduce it).

She has already tried the Nixon library--they were unhelpful and rude--they said there were lots of pics of Nixon on the beach and that they had no idea what she was talking about. As the picture is fairly famous, I think they just didn't want to help.

Can anyone point me to that picture? It must be around somewhere....My friend thinks this picture was taken in San Clemente about halfway through Nixon's first term.

3. actually that was the first
place she tried. Lots of Nixon, some on the beach---but none on the beach in a suit and wingtips. It really is a classic photo too...

But thanks.

It was taken in San Clemente... Don't know if those are wingtips or not. I'm not much for your "fashion"...

5. no--in the famous one he is all alone on the
beach--and he is walking--all super gussied up in a suit and highly polished dress shoes.

(Your pic is a good one though!)

10. YES!!!
you are a genius! Thank you so much! I have to tell you, I tried all weekend to help her out--and had no luck finding this one! I love it---who would walk on the beach in that uncomfortable get-up! It is so classic Nixon! She is going to be so happy!

You are my hero!

Thank you so much!

14. Can you give me the URL
for this pic? (She will want to trace it back to the source and get permissions to use it).

Thanks so much

17. I found it at this URL
Need to space it so it doesn't print a picture instead of the URL:

9. no--I have seen the pic before (in a distant
memory) and he was all dressed up (not in jeans). He was trying to blend in--but looked (as always) like he was uncomfortable in his own skin.

It is weird to see all the pics of him up though--gives me chills!

You are all so nice to try to help out!

12. you know what is weird--I think the ones with Pat were
taken later---but he has more hair than in the earlier ones.

I wonder if Nixon got hair plugs.....

I have to go wash my eyes out with bleach now after looking at all these photos!

Thank you all you wonderful people for the help!

13. i'm really reaching but...
i think that the pic you are referring to was published in the "nixon yearbook" in 1968. i believe that nixon is on a windswept beach alone, strolling pensively in full business attire. i didn't look for it with enthusiasm but you can at least google up several antique dealers who have it in stock for about ten bucks.

15. That sounds great. I actually belong to
a group that gets good discounts on old and out of print books--so I may do that. It actually really is a great pic. He looks as out of place as a Martian on the beach in a suit and dress shoes. Classic!
