Michael Moore responds to Aladdin hotel regarding Ronstadt
-snip-
Moore fallout

"Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore sent a scathing note to Aladdin President Bill Timmins late Monday, saying Timmins owes Linda Ronstadt an apology for her removal from the hotel Saturday night after her concert.

Moore said booting Ronstadt out of the Aladdin was "stupid and un-American."

He asked Timmins to "invite her back and I'll join her in singing 'America the Beautiful' on your stage. Then I will show 'Fahrenheit 9/11' free of charge to all your guests," Moore wrote on his Web site, www.michael

moore.com/words/index.php.

2. It's weird that the Casino owners would be freepers.
But it makes sense when you consider how much of the strip the Saud family probably owns. We are an occupied country. Welsome to the United Staes of Saudi Arabia.

3. No it isn't...they rely on dumb-ass freepers to make a living
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 07:36 AM by Atman
They need to keep them happy. Some other country yokel singing "God Bless the US of A, My Pickup Truck, Flannel and Your Kid Sister" might have been a better choice, in retrospect.

What I find funny is the number of stories which don't report that people "stormed out" during...her encore. I don't know about you, but I almost always leave during the end of the encore to beat the rush at the door. Having people leave during the encore was, I'd bet, only partly because of MM's dedication. It takes a tough, principled freeper to walk out on a show that's already over.

4. Well, they gotta get their $98's worth, y'know...
Doesn't stop them from storming the box office, though...

I've been to Las Vegas. Fat, obnoxious , loud assholes, the most popular ride in town is the stretch-Hummer limo.

Lots of old men with girls young enough to be their grand-daughters, etc.....

Strange town....

7. I've never had any desire to go to Vegas. Ever.
Precisely for this reason.

Take the bounds of bad taste and stretch them to the breaking point. Ugh.

On a related note, we were watching our "Bush in 30 Seconds" viddy before our Fox party Sunday evening, and during the awards ceremony for the commercials, Janeane Garofalo quoted someone very important. Then she followed that with... "He also said, all those who drive white stretch Hummers are douchebags. That's a lesser known fact."

So now I think of that whenever I see a Hummer!

16. It's a boring town, actually...
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 09:51 AM by BiggJawn
I go there every year for a convention. I don't fuck strangers, drink, or smoke cigars, and my "gambling" is limited to playing the slots, but since most houses have machines that pay-off with paper vouchers instead of quarters or nickels (told you I'm a cheap-ass) even that is boring now.

So when I'm not pounding the convention floor, I'm looking for different cuisine, watching the fountain, or stuffing myself at Todai...:-)

18. You're Right!
I went a few times for conventions. I found ONE really good band, and all the rest ranged from pathetic to just ok.

I don't gamble, didn't have time to play golf (except a driving range), if i'm drinking beer, i don't have to go 1500 miles to do that, and i'm not really interested in the kind of big shows they do there. (A little schmaltzy for my taste.)

The one time i went that i really enjoyed is when the Hilton had the Star Trek Experience. Combination museum and interactive thrill ride based around the Next Gen stuff. That was pretty cool. I went twice.

Actually, that's kind of funny. For me the best thing in Vegas was a Star Trek thing!

Star Trek. I've heard about it. reprehensor and I are both Shat fans. I'm an original gal. I don't watch any of the spin-offs.

What I don't understand is the whole "theme hotel" thing. Instead of going to a cheesy hotel that LOOKS like Italy or Egypt or a circus, why don't you go to the real thing?

Authenticism. It counts for a lot. Everything about that place is fake.

Yecccch.

You can have some fun if you treat it that way, but you must have some reason to be there other than to have a vacation.

because I got a great deal. I own a full service gas station and sell a car here every once in a while. The H2 is a theft recovery. The insurance company had already settled with the original owner when they recovered it.

I plan to sell it and will turn a nice easy profit. I just want to enjoy it for a while.

53. I served from
1987 until 1994.

Got out as an E-5P (promotable to E-6, I had already gone to the board). My MOS was 11-C when I enlisted. Basically a heavy infantryman. My MOS was changed to 11-B after Ranger School (Ranger Class 13-87).

Bush 41 sent troops to Somalia. Those were Marines. Rangers went in on Bill Clinton's watch. I am not blaming Clinton. I was serving and would go where whoever was CINC sent me.

That is sooooo dangerous. Many a men have commited atrocities because they disowned their body and soul to the state. No matter what the oath, you have to do what is right. Oaths are meant to be broken, conscience is not.

it is really hard to understand. Especially if one is serving in an elite unit. I shed blood in the service. I am proud of my military service and wear the scars proudly.

I do not think my service makes any better or worse than anyone though.

55. God gave you that instinct for a reason, Fudge Stripe. Follow it.
Las Vegas is a hell hole. I had never been till last year. Never planned to go, either, until I had to go to a work related trade show there.

I wasn't even out of the airport and was wishing I could get back on the plane for the turnaround flight back to DTW.

Oh. My. God. It was breathtakingly horrendous, what I saw of it anyway. I pretty much stuck to my room at Paris. I had coordinate our tradeshow activities so I was up early and turned in late.

The show was at Paris Las Vegas and right next door was this Aladdin place. The one night I did venture out onto the strip (co-workers basically forced me), we went into the casino there. What a dump.
I can't imagine Linda playing this place. Ugh.

61. Ever see "You've Got Mail?"
Tom Hanks hates his "stepmother", who's about the same age.

She has horrible taste in furnishings, so he comments that she got her decorating degree at Caesar's Palace.

THAT'S how I think of Vegas. Animal prints, gaudy satin....blegh.

Thanks for reassuring me that my thoughts are correct, Kzoo!

Perhaps the fact that my ex-stepmonster wanted to take my mom THERE to get married always soured me on it as well. What honorable guy takes a woman to Vegas if he takes their relationship seriously?

I don't need a church, necessarily- we were married at a neat little multi-use place, but I need something more than a wedding chapel in Vegas.

That says to me you value your wedding about as much as you value the relationship itself.

This is Goddess40's mom. I also wrote to Timmins at Aladdin. Told him my party of 7 that makes an annual trip to Vegas will no longer gamble or eat at Aladdin as we have been doing. Said he should have kicked out the ones causing the disturbance and there were probably as many in the audience who agreed with Linda as those who didn't. Told him he had no courage and did not support freedom of speech. Said he owes Linda and all her fans an apology.

23. Michael Moore
is my hero - absolutely unafraid to stand up to these wingnut assholes.

I'm incensed that the whores are pretty much ignoring this story. To throw an entertainer out of a hotel because she made a few political comments is something that ought to concern everyone. Pretty soon the repukes will insist that all Dems have a "D" tatooed on their foreheads so they can be denied entry into repuke-run hotels, restaurants etc.

Last week I posted a letter a woman had written to the LA Times about a restaurant in Oxnard, CA where every Sunday AM the owner interrupts the diners to make a pro-war speech and then cajoles everyone in the place to stand up and sing along to a boombox rendition of God Bless America while the wait staff locks arms and sways back and forth.

This kind of shit should be called out at every opportunity.

I'd like to see Dems protest on the sidewalk outside the Aladdin, urging people to stay away - at least until Ronstadt receives a public apology.

why do they hate free speech? they're always the ones shouting about how the wars we oppose fight for our right to free speech, right before they get somebody fired for exercizing it. You know, these are the very people who need to love or leave it, not us.

who want to see the movie for free.. The hotel would not like to see hundreds of guests lined up to LEAVE the casino for a few hours

and maybe he could finagle a discount at some other hotel for people that would INCLUDE a free ticket to the show :)

Think outside the box :)
