I don't like where this is headed
Whoopi speaks at a private fundrasier, making jokes about Bush. The GOP choir hops on television and follows Jon Stewarts "talking points" skit to the letter. Whoopi gets fired from Slim Fast.

Dennis Miller appears PUBLICALLY with Chimpy, and all but calls Kerry and Edwards homosexuals.

*cue crickets chirping*

Should the democrats follow the GOP script?

1. That depends.
Do Democrats just want to win the game of politics, or do Democrats want to live up to American ideals even when it's not beneficial to do so?

16. Getting philosophical for a moment:
Is it better to live with rationalizations or die with one's principles? Different people will answer in different ways.

17. politics is not a game
it is a war

an all-out war on the American way of life

an all-out war on the planet

an all-out war on any third-world country unfortunate enough to possess oil reserves or a religion not officially endorsed by Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell

a war is not a nice thing to fight--if we lose, we lose it all

The consequences may be real, but it is still a game. Many people are genuinely hurt in NFL football, but it is still a game.

21. To get a clear view
of the Republican strategy, remember what Cheney is reported to have said: (paraphrasing) Principles are no good if you don't win......

that's what we're up against.

The question is this: If we give up our principles for victory, how can we, will we ever get them back?

A good friend of mine once said that the first mission of any institution is survival. You may have noble causes but they will never become reality if you do not survive.

It's really quite a dilema, isn't it?

30. Long term, it must not be a war
For the moment it probably is a war, because the neoconservatives think it is one so a war is upon you whether you want it or no.

Long term however, for the good of the nation, everybody has to come to their senses - conservatives included - and realise that politics is not a continuation of war by other means; that the opposition are not traitors and that compromise must be sought. How that is to be achieved without some disaster to wake everyone up I cannot imagine, but it is imperative that such a transformation takes place.

the post-Lee Atwater neocons have changed everything

politics is now total war

no prisoners

scorched earth

all is fair

nothing is off limits

the truth is irrelevant

might makes right

the winner gets to write the history books (that's why reagan's name is on everything)

you people can pretend it's still civilized all the way to the camps if you want, but it is not civilized. it is a life-and-death struggle and there will be only one winner.

Ok an American citizen is being prosecuted by speaking her mind at a affair not even related to her job. And you can honestly sit there and ask this question? Should we follow GOP script? What you and everyone here should be asking ourselves is why haven't we revolted and got rid of our manarchy? We should ask ourselves why hasn't blood been spilt taking back our country?

12. It's only OK when the Republicans do it.
If we do it they just ban us from the airwaves, papers, and even billboards.

We only get the privilege of being on the Republican-owned media as
long as we play nice and innocuous and smile while they stab us in
the back. It sucks, but it's better than no media access at all,
which is the alternative.

38. Very severe. Just like theirs.
Be prepared, as a first item. Don't send folks on shows who are not prepared. Send people who are not afraid of the consequences.

They are desperate, and they are not going to let up. We have to play the game just as toughly as they do.

Our spokesmen go on air totally unprepared, and just sit there often like deer in the headlights. Get prepared. Get with Berger and Wilson, and speak up for them.

Don't leave them hanging in the breeze.

31. Boycott!? Not going to happen
I hate to say it, but DEMS will not get together and get organized until the freepers and neo-cons are marching us off to the gulag.

The Publicans are better at this because they spent so much time in the minority, and they have vitriolic talking heads that do not even pretend to have a civil debate. 35% of the murikan population (or maybe more) don't just disagree with us, they think we are evil communist pinko "girlie men". You could show them a picture of Schwarzenegger's shriveled steroid ruined penis, and they would still suck it "because he is a real he-man". * could eat babies on CNN and this 35% would find a way to justify it, or blame it on Clinton.

I'm sorry to say it, but DEMS will not get organized for a boycott or anything else until they actually experience what it is like as the minority party in this country. For my children's sake, I hope that I am wrong, but the repukes have had a long time to perfect this crap. That is also why they will not go quietly and peacefully this year. Unless Kerry wins by such a landslide and they lose seats in the Senate and House...well, stand-by for Impeachment II. They are already setting it up with the Burger stuff and the Drudge story about the affair. Do you really think they won't find someone, anyone to file suit against President Kerry for something? The Supremes made this OK with Clinton. If we were really serious, then *'s ass would be in front of a Grand Jury right now.

You can't play nice with these cheneyer's. Nice gets you a seat at the back of the bus.

Sorry for the rant.

Yep, the right had a long time to perfect the media takeover, and the post-Reagan generations are particularly vulnerable to the systemic lies, having no history for comparison. Our only hope is not just winning the presidency, but having the houses swept as well.

36. Thanks, but I am so frustrated
Already, I've heard over 50 references on AM radio (not just Rush, but also the local wannabees) about Berger stuffing documents in his socks and his pants. Hate to hi-jack a thread, but from what I can tell, there is absolutely no proof to the claim that he "stuffed" documents in anything other than his pockets. It does not matter! Proof doesn't matter to Rush, or those like him. All that matters is that they get their spin out and that it sticks. Just watch and be amazed. First it will hit Rush and he'll beat the drum for 3 hours, then the local hosts will repeat it again, The Factor will hit it hard for a few hours, then Insanity will recycle it and beat it again for 3 hours. Faux News will pick it up, they'll have some "liberal" that will say "I would like to see the facts get out before we pass judgement, BUT sticking documents down your pants and in your socks is serious". Before you know it, people will be connecting this whole story, not with the facts of the case, and that he is cooperating, and that he has not been charged with anything, and that the documents were copies and notes, and that NO DOCUMENTS are actually missing (unlike *'s military records). Suddenly the story becomes about sticking documents down your pants or in your socks, because you know what..that is "sexy", that makes people laugh, and that will STICK WITH THEM. Not the facts, but the funny part, because it is entertaining.

Hell, more than half of Americans buy the shit that * is some kind of Texas Cowboy! Some cowboy?? In another thread it was announce that * is being buried in MA?? When is that last time anyone on any major media outlet has made it a point to portray * as the Kennebunkport, Andover, Yale attending cheerleader, afraid of horses "sissy-boy" that he is? Don't hold your breath. We are stuck with the "brush clearing cowboy image".

My new description for *: "A Connecticutt Yankee is John Wayne clothes."

on my way to the polls, I tuned into Hannity (fool that I am), and you are 100 percent correct.

That's ALL that fuck keeps yelling -- Berger stuffed documents in his socks. The big lie -- just keep repeating it, and it will be viewed as fact.

Now they are saying that the "documents" must have been something to exonerate Bush, and implicate Clinton in the 9/11 intelligence failures.
He had some congressman on with him (sorry, but forgot his name).

And no matter how many people go on air to defend Berger, more than 3 times that number will be paraded on the "talk shows" to tout the GOP line.

I am in CA which is supposed to be fairly liberal, and our radio line-up is 9-12 Rush; 12-2 local wingnut; 2-5 Hannity!

I can't even get a traffic report without throwing something at my radio. My GAWD! Could you imagine how brainwashed you would be if you were stuck in your car all day?

29. We need a good guy - bad guy team
We should have Team Good and Team Bad-ass

Team Good will remain focused, keep their head above the fray, and be the intelligent and kind people that they are.

Team Bad-ass can get in the ring, get down and dirty if need be, defend our honor, take some of the heat off ...

... meanwhile, Team Good and Kerry-Edwards is kicking ass with intelligence and fortitude; formulating plans to cover each and every base in order to give this country back to us citizens.

I'm not very good at being a bad-ass, but I sure am ready to give it a try.

if asked about Whoopie - is give a big sigh and say something to the effect like

"you know, with all the problems and issues that are directly impacting America today, you would think the Republicans would be interested in talking about solutions instead of clucking over inconsequental things. People have no health insurance or are under-insured and the Republicans want to debate a marriage amendment. People are out of work, jobs are outsourced every day and the Republicans want to discuss Whoopie. We are in Afghanistan and Iraq, and now Iran is in the news as possibly connected to 9-11 --- where are the Republicans? Where is the leadership? Where is the debate about the issues that matter to Americans?"

Looks to me like we are reverting to that ugly period right before the "war" when censorship was prevalent. It's going to get worse before it gets better with the election at stake--that's all I know.
