Oh, I guess that's probably alright. This is REALLY important.
When we LOSE THE NEWS we've lost the fight.http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/07/20/berger.probe/index.html

1. The only question you can ask after that story ...
... is why is Asscroft's Justice Department trying to smear Berger.

Key paragraph is here ....

"Two sources associated with the investigation said Berger's lawyer, Lanny Breuer, made a detailed statement of Berger's view of the facts at issue several months ago and has offered to talk to the Justice Department about a resolution to the probe. Breuer has renewed his offer to talk several times since, one of the Berger associates said, but said prosecutors have refused to enter into such discussions."

There is a story here. But it's how the Justice Department is being used to deflect attention away from the failings of the Bush administration ....

This wouldn't be Page One 24/7.

Wanna bet most the "secret" documants in question were ones he had originally written?

This is how they tried to discredit O'Neil, don't forget. "Secret Documants" on that CD-ROM of stuff they gave him as a lovely partying gift that had been vetted and CLEARED by the spooks...

4. Great meme...
When people mention Whoopi Goldberg to me, I say, "Good thing she didn't tell a respected Senator to go fuck himself."

But please, please don't say she was "outed." That kind of mild and inaccurate language lets these monsters off the hook. They BLEW THE COVER OF AN AMERICAN AGENT, plain and simple.

5. This one doesn't smell right to me. Berger is not a dumb guy.
Berger is getting the good old "liberal press" treatment. I'm going to hold off on this until I hear more. Unfortunately, this is going too be cycled and recycled for god knows how long. It's going too be blame Berger to Clinton to Kerrey for damn near every Bush atrocity. Any Kerrey action at this time? Clinton action? What do you think needs too be done?

7. My thoughts exactly......
I saw Wolfie on CNN and he seemed delighted that he had something else to bash the dems with. I wonder what his thoughts are on outing a CIA agent......

10. right wing media
Sandy Berger of all people should know the rules. His shenanigans have given the bush crowd the ability to minimize the republican crimes. He has tainted the Kerry-Edwards ticket by association and has unnecessarily provided the republican spin machine with ammo.My tinfoil hat is flashing red.

17. He knows better
Taking the files from the nat. archives and losing or misplacing same.Sandy Berger is not a low level staffer or a political neophyte. He knows the republicans will jump on anything to cloud the issues and render the republican crimes less offensive. No charges will be filed but the implication of guilt will reverberate with Joe sixpack.HE should have known better!!!!!!!!!!

12. Hastert's "profoundly troubled" makes me profoundly troubled.
I thought maybe 900 soldiers being killed in Bush's phoney war would trouble him more.

16. This smear SILENCES Clinton's most important intelligence expert EXACTLY
when his voice is needed most.

Now there'll be nobody authoritative to counterbalance the "it's Clinton's fault" SPIN Condi and Rove are going to put on the 9/11 Commission report.

When will we hear from the archivists about their procedures for providing access to documents? Do you really believe the National Archives let ANYONE handle the ONLY copy of any document?

We won't or it will be a small blurb on page forty.Berger was a credible and valuable voice for Kerry. You are so right about him being silenced.
