8. Indirect link in this review of the Bush Dyslexicon by Mark Crispin Miller
http://www.nuvo.net/archive/2002/09/11/the_bush_dyslexicon_observations_on_a_national_disorder.html

The Bush Dyslexicon is a cry from the heart from a critical thinker who has watched our president closely and found him not just wanting, but dangerous. "Look out!" Crispin seems to yell on almost every page. His book isn"t another in the series of jokey collections of Bush bloopers. Miller, through close analysis of Bush"s public statements going back to his days as governor of Texas, argues that our president is not the simple, aw-shucks straight-shooter his image makers have concocted, but a mean-spirited, vindictive and mentally challenged man who can barely keep a complete thought in his head. One consequence of this condition is that, when required to speak spontaneously, Bush frequently mis-speaks.

The media treats these gaffes as bloopers. But Miller shows that they happen so frequently and in such patterns that these statements actually reveal alarming truths about what Bush really thinks about things. For example, when asked on Dec. 21 to characterize his year in 2001, Bush replied, "But all in all, it"s been a fabulous year for Laura and me." Smoke, of course, was still rising over southern Manhattan at the time.

Excellent Book, BTW - I highly recommend it.

5. I heard it in a press availability.
It was the holiday season, winter of 2001-2002, either in late December or early January. Bush and Pickles were showing off White House carpets to the press and he made that comment.

My cousin almost drove off the highway when I told her about that (We have relatives and friends who lost colleagues and family in the WTC attack).

6. The rug, the rug.
December 21, 2001
>snip<
But all in all, it's been a fabulous year for Laura and me. We're so grateful to be living in this compound and I'm grateful to be working in this office. It's a joy to walk in here every morning, realizing that I'm the President of the greatest country on the face of the Earth.

Anything you want to say?

MRS. BUSH: Happy holidays to everybody. Very happy New Year.

THE PRESIDENT: Why don't you say something about the rug?

MRS. BUSH: Do you want to hear more about the rug?

7. It WAS a fabulous year for Bush.
It WAS a fabulous year for Bush. He got the excuse he needed to roll out his NeoCon agenda dropped right in his lap. He went from being tolerated by barely half of the nation to having a 90%+ approval rating. He went from being the Chimp in Chief to our Fearless Leader. For BUSH, it was a FABULOUS year.
