I told a MegaGiantCorpCo to F*ck off...and now...
...I may be about to jump from one frying pan into another one.

After a 7-month long dispute with SBC (the phone company) over a double bill, about which SBC took no action other than to call back once a month and demand payment, I finally told them to piss up a rope, that I had choices now, and if they didn't want my big fat check every month without harassing me for money I don't owe them, I'm sure I could find someone to take my cash.

They tried to back down -- again -- and offer me a deal. I refused to even listen. They'd done that once before when I threatened to take my biz elsewhere, and still they screwed me on this double-billing issue (by doing nothing). So I said thanks, but no thanks.

By the end of the day, my phone lines will switch to digital, and I'll be done with SBC -- "The Phone Company." Anyone have experience with digital telephone? Any big deal, or is it convenience only, and I won't notice the difference, or care? Oh, btw...I'm now at the mercy of another MegaGiantCorpCo, Cox Communications.

1. I've got unlimited voice...
...from earthlink. It's pretty reliable - unless your cable modem service goes down...then you'd better have a cellphone to forward all your calls to - which can be done if you set it up on your voip phone service - then it happens automatically when/if your cable connection goes down

another thing to consider is 911 service - that had to be set up seperately for me...but i was glad to be rid of bell and their rediculous charges for everything. i get the same services a lot cheaper with the new service. voicemail, caller id, call forwarding, free long distance....
