LEFT........OR CENTER?
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 04:35 PM by jus_the_facts
.....I feel like a flip flopper....on some issues I KNOW there is only one way it can be...and that is the LEFT...on others I KNOW it can only work if it's to the CENTER....as for the RIGHT...all is LOST.

Yet still...all in all...I think the RIGHT has us in a Kung Fu GRIP of EPIC perportions and there will never again be an iota of true democracy...if there ever really was such a thing....it's all a paradox.. these same eons old problems will never be worked out...as we animals compare ourselves to perfection and drive ourselves insane....with endless...hatred and greed...and terratorial domination.

Isn't it all really a continuous LOOP where survival of the RICHEST/FITTEST will always keep the majority down....that's the way my brain wraps around history...and leaves me with my cynical viewpoint...I continue to vote my conscience and keep fightin' the good fight...till I DIE.

1. The use of "left" and "right" to describe Dems and Rethugs or libs and
cons is misleading. The real extremes are anarchy and totalitarianism. When looking at an issue or candidate, ask the question: Does this issue/person favor increasing the size, power and control of the government or does it strengthen the individual rights of citizens.

2. Yet there is a *flaw* usin' that logic too......
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 04:46 PM by jus_the_facts
.....because the only real reason for a strong gov't in the first place is to FORCE the elite to be FAIR to the individual rights of it's citizens....there in lies the unsolvable paradox.

8. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Of course we need a government large
enough and strong enough to provide for the common defense, pave streets, and provide those services which no individual can provide alone. We can also choose to have a government which provides other services, such as health care and education. What I was suggesting is that looking at an issue in terms of whether it is left, centrist or right is not very illuminating. Let's use two wedge issues this year, amending the Constitution to ban both gay marriage and flag burning. It is hypocritical of right wing anti-big government politicos to endorse expanding the power of our central government and allow it to make personal decisions about marriage and freedom of expression. Rather than shooting the messenger, how about giving some examples which demonstrate that left, right and center gives a better understanding of these issues than the formula I gave.

10. You've just expounded on the paradox......
....it's the hypocisy of the RIGHT that demeans and warps all the small advances the LEFT has fought for since the conception of the term DEMOCRACY.....sigh.

12. What about protecting rights
Of a person to make personal decisions about who they marry. What if the Constitutional Amendment were to allow complete marital freedom? Would that be big government? The right says so. I say it's the US Constitution stepping in to protect US citizens when the States won't do their job.

13. Actually, the real right, as opposed to the neocon pretenders, do not
support DMA. McCain described it as antithetical to conservative principals. But you ask a good questioned and I agree, protecting individual right is one of the most important jobs of a federal government.

we need a third party that takes the good in dems, and the good in repugs adn throw away the bad in both party, and that ne the third party for all the balanced people

and then let there be the extreme of the repug party, and the extreme of the democrat party

9. Maybe if there were more people interested in politics.....
....that's the SADDEST part of it all...that people misconstrue the importance and intent of what a Democractic GOV'T means in their lives. :(
