Berger(ler) stuffed docs in his socks
Well, at least that's what FOX says Berger and his lawyer said.

Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket, pants and socks, and also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio.

Well, I just saw his lawyer on CNN and he said no such thing! Make sure to keep a copy of this truth in journalism.

2. yeah
Just like the Clintons trashed Air Force One.

Make a side comment, get the rumor out there...that's all it takes.

I have no problem believing classified documents got mixed up in other documents and were accidentally taken out. I know people who work in nat'l security and the impression I've been given (not just by democrats) is that this isn't all that uncommon. Even intelligence agencies are big old bureacracies where the regular office mishaps happen. I also have no problem believing he deliberately took notes he knew he wasn't allowed to. I've also been told this is not uncommon. This should all still be investigated, of course, and, if necessary, prosecuted, but I think all the media reports are really missing some context and perspective.

It really doesn't strike me as a huge deal, especially if, as TMP mentioned, what he took were copies rather than originals. That seems to kill any implication of a cover up right there. The 9/11 Commission doesn't seem to be saying that it's missing any documents, either.

That's not to say it won't become a big deal, politically, and Berger was stupid, but so it goes. I guess the only real response is PLAME.

4. They have an unnamed source who is saying this
However, in the FOX article I posted it says that Berger and his lawyer are saying this. BTW, Lanny Davis was on CNN this morning:

Former White House lawyer Lanny Davis challenged any unnamed official who accuses Berger of stuffing documents into his socks to come forward and level that charge publicly.

"I suggest that person is lying," he said. "And if that person has the guts, let's see who it is who made the comment that Sandy Berger stuffed something into his socks."
