Poll question: Who in 2008, if God forbid Kerry loses?
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 06:16 PM by dems4america
I saw an article that said a majority of current delegates would pick Hillary. However, I don't think that is the consenus for all the people.

Here are some of the top contenders in 08 if Kerry happens to lose:

1. I highly doubt
Dean or Clark will run again. I also think it would be dumb for Edwards to run if he loses this time. People are talking about his inexperience now. Well, if he loses and does not stay in the Senate he will still have only 6 years and 4 years of nothing. That just isn't enough.

12. That would be my main worry
Who would run would be way secondary to if anyone would get to run.

I used to find such hyperbole over the top, but now I'm not so sure.

Defeat is not an option people.

Hillary all the way. She just might be radical enough to win by turning out the lefties in full force.

15. I know, but it could happen
The wingnuts will shout socialist until they lose their voices and some lefties may believe it. Her single-payer health care plan is good but they'll call it socialism and say it puts 1/7 of America under her thumb.

18. And she would definitely turn the conservatives and neocons
out in droves too. It also depends on if we are at war or if we have peace. Too many men and woman may not be able to envision a woman as Commander-in-Chief. I frankly think the public needs more time to see more women in high places. I personally think I could see her as president but I don't think the majority of Americans can. They may say it...but when it comes down to actually voting...they may not... Just my HO.

7. It will hardly matter
Because the RW will be so entrenched in government you might as well have an actor to play the part of contender.
And perhaps by then we can have a virtual reality election where it is all electronically done and we can all pretend it is real.

Don't you think we should be focusing on winning THIS election first. As Phil Donahue was fond of saying to callers who didn't quite make sense: "What's your point caller?"

14. I predict that if/when Hillary runs
there will be plenty of posters talking about how she is a RW "Whore" who has "sold out" and is just one more "corporate shill" who is no different than the Republicans because she supports "insert pet issue here"

;)

27. Well, would she be a sell out
or corporate shill because she voted for the Iraq invasion?

Or because she voted for extremely anti-consumer bankruptcy legislation?

Or because she voted for the Partiot Act?

Or because she voted for the Terrorism Insurance Act to help those poor, poor insurance companies pay claims with my tax dollars?

Or because she voted for the Syria Accountability Act (which can possibly also be used against Iran)?

Yeah, I can't see ANY reason why some people would think she's a sell out or coporate shill. And your "insert pet issue here" space didn't account for there being *so many* problems with her votes, now did it? :eyes:

17. Dennis Kucinich
Kucinich in 2008!

Here is link to AP story:

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/articles/2004/07/20/dems_seen_favoring_sen_clinton_in_08/

Your characterization is entirely inaccurate. Hilary was not in fact preferred by a majority of the 4,300-plus delegates as you state.

They surveyed 3,000 of the current delegates.

Clinton was favored by 26 percent overall and Edwards 17 percent. (So that is less than 20% of current delegates naming Clinton.)

About 2.5 percent of the delegates favored one-time candidate Howard Dean, the former front-runner. Several others were favored by about 1 percent each: Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who is keeping his long-shot candidacy alive; retired Gen. Wesley Clark; former Vice President Al Gore; and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

About 3 percent favored Kerry if he doesn't succeed this year.

20. Hillary is who the GOP THINKS we should or would run for 2008
For my taste, Hillary is too much of a Hawk, and too tied to the DLC. I hope we get to vote for a real Democrat for President, someday. Not a DLC clone or spoiler.

If we have to wait til 08, I'm afraid we will be Amurika the Fascists by then, and there will be no election 08.

26. I see one real problem if Kerry wins, though.
Even on here, a lot of Democrats are holding thier noses and voting for Kerry. Hardly any of the swing voters are voting for Kerry, they are voting against Bush. Pee Wee Herman could be running and those voters would vote against Bush. Unless Kerry does a spectacular job as President, he will be one of the most vulnerable Presidents ever.
There will not be a Bush to vote against to reelect Kerry.

If he is seen as weak, several stronger Democrats are going to try to usurp him in the primaries and it may turn into a bloody nasty fight with the Republicans watching gleefully from the sidelines.

Should Kerry win, we will need to hold his feet to the fire and keep him focused and not leaning to the right.
