What is it with Republicans and flag burning?
I just heard on AAR that Republicans are bringing up an amendment to the constitution in the Senate that will pretty much outlaw flag burning. When was the last time you heard about flag burning on American soil? Why is this an issue?? Or is this going to be something that they try to bring up every 10 years or so?

1. Another jingoistic red herring.
Meanwhile, publicans are burning the rest of the Constitution.

2. I don't know about you...
...but on my street there a flag burners every day, more on weekends.

Between that and the numerous guys shacked up with box turtles leaves me very frustrated.

3. They'll burn the Constitution to prevent people from burning the flag.
The flag is merely a symbol of the freedom given to us by the Constitution.
These RWers have absolutely no substance.

4. If it becomes illegal, how would you properly dispose of it?
I was always told that when the flag gets old and tattered, the thing to do was to burn it. Was I given wrong information?

Regardless, what is the deal with them screwing with the Constitution lately? Leave it alone already!

7. Exactly the proper way to dispose of a flag is to burn it
Wonder how they will get around that one?

10. They use the flag as wedge issue. In a way they are the reverse of patriots
Most fascist regimes appropriate the symbols of national pride or invent their own.

11. You are correct
to burn an unservicible flag is the correct method of disposal.
I burnt 2 this summer for a neigbhor. She put them in a paper bag and put them in the fire.

5. It's obvious...
If you burn the flag, then you have nothing with which to gag the mouths of dissenters.

6. This is how they get poor people to vote against their own interests.
They always do that. The Republicans will never address issues that would actually help the middle class, so they offer up these stupid, symbolic issues instead. Some people fall for it.

It's the usual election year, divide and conquer bullshit.

8. More weapons of mass distraction
they're just trying to distract from the fact that Everything Bush* touches goes to shit. This week the senate 9/11 report comes out, a giant shit storm for Bush*. Maybe next week PLAME investigation. Week after that KEN LAY arraignment. The facts are stacked against poor little DIMSON.

9. Here in Oklahoma
The skies are choked with the black smoke from all the burning American flags, and the tears people cry aren't just because of the irritants in the air but because freedom/patriotism/love of country, mom, and apple pie are what's really being burned!

Okay, sarcasm off. That said the only flag burning I know of has happened in my living room every January 20 since 2001.

12. Aww...
It's off subject, but you're burning flags on my birthday. It's extremely depressing to have a birthday overshadowed by the election of a maniac. Hopefully I'll actually have a reason to CELEBRATE come 2005.
