Western Canadians - WOW EIGHT Cabinetmembers - feel included?
Is this the end of Western Alienation? I am of course being sarcastic. I was watching CBC tonight and they made it sound like these 8 are Canada's solution to unity.... Even made a point of saying the got rid of two women members, and replaced them with two British Columbians. Wow, I didn't know the ENTIRE western half of the country was so special that we get token cabinet members. :eyes:

1. Is this considered an improvement?
"...got rid of two women members, and replaced them with two British Columbians."

I'm a little confused. Are the two groups mutually exclusive?

3. Sorry but I don't agree with your western allienation theory
I hope I don't anger you by saying this, but I think this whole thing of "western alienation" is vastly overblown.....I mean, come on.....We are all doing quite well in this country....All large countries have areas that feel they are not getting enough attention....That's just the nature of things, in my opinion.....The United States has the same sort of complaints from some areas of their country.....In fact they have militia groups in different parts of their country advocating the overthrow of the American government.....Is the problem that Ottawa is the capital of Canada and is in Ontario.....So, big deal....So what....Perhaps that is a good idea since it is in the middle of our country?.....I truly believe that the average Canadian, whether in British Columbia or Newfoundland is basically satisfied with what our country is.....Do you think perhaps you are letting your journalistic instincts stir up a problem that really does not exist?.....No offence meant by me.....I've come to view you as a caring person.

4. Okay,

Well, I look at it this way. I agree Canada works...but don't dare say that in a Canadian press conference out west. I've lived in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. I have found that there is more federal attention to those areas (the first two especially)If Canada would include the west more (IE more than 8 members) We would be a stronger nation. On the other side of the coin....the feds have been pitting the West Vrs Quebec too long. I can't believe it when I hear people say they "Hate" Quebec, with no good reason. Pisses me off to no end.
I think if Canada became completely separate from these party identies we would be SO strong. For that, the Liberal government MUST truly include the west.
I think too many go for the Con vote as a protest against Eastern domination. Many are liberal at heart, so get rid of those barriers and we shall be stronger.

Do not worry about personal explanations - I feel we've settle personal differnces long ago. ;-)

EDIT; I don't know what a narrier is but B is nxt to N on the Keyboard.

5. You know what?.....I believe our Canadian good sense will work it all out!
I'm a grandmother and much older than you and I remember the time when there were mostly white, Anglo Saxons in my province of Ontario...Now it is so incredibly diverse...in colour and national heritage....All these people have been accepted into our country, rather peacefully and it ALL WORKS....I agree with you about the morons who put down Quebec, but I think they are in the minority...From your postings on DU, I sense a good naturedness about you.....If I'm not being presumptuous....Why don't you use your writing talents to promote good feelings about Canada?

6. Because I se too much wrong
In that sense, turly I love this nation, I really do. But I feel certain problems must be addressed, and if being critical is the answer, I will do that.
I will defend this country to no end when I feel it's being wronged...on DU or otherwise.
But we can't pretend things like Western Alienation aren't there. To be honest, I was a HUGE BC separatist at one point, but now I see, all this can be simply resolved.
Funnt thing is, when you and I are long gone...the population int ehwest will solve the problem and our conversations topics will be read about in textbooks.

7. The "problems" are so miniscule when compared to those in many
other countries.....and I believe textbooks will talk about Canada as a model of a country which works for the betterment of it's citizens....We still have lots of problems to be worked out....but the thing is we do it with civility and not with guns.....Hey, HEyHEY....I'm getting a little sleeply so I'll say bye.....

8. dang! Anderson's out of the cabinet ...
I was hoping he'd do one last term in Environment. One of the new BC ministers wants to push for offshore drilling, and Anderson was opposed to that.
