Does anyone have bad F 9/11 stories to share? Friends not liking it? |
|
All I have read so far are success stories when it comes to F 9/11. "My ultra-conservative best friend/co-worker/brother/grandfather/sister's husband's best friend's cousin, saw the movie last night and now they are pissed at Bush!" This is great and all, but it seems too good to be true. Does anyone have stories where people saw the movie and got more conservative? They thought it was bullshit? If not, then my confidence about this election will continue to get higher and higher. If so, what actions do you think we can take to continue to work on those people and turn them over from the dark side.
The only story that I have is that while watching the credits, two middle aged guys in front of me were talking and one said "It's pure propaganda!". The other riffing off of him said, "Yeah, it has not a single leg to stand on." (:eyes:). I didn't say anything, but I wish I would have then. It has five million legs to stand on. He uses actual footage of Bush officials. He talks about how the Saudis receive special treatment and then when he goes to the Saudi embassy, he is approached by the secret service who then admit that, yes it's unusual for the secret service to protect a foreign embassy. I kick myself for not say anything now, but at the time the music was still blaring and I was by myself. They probably would have kept me from saying anything and just started talking to each other and nodding as they said false things; getting comfort from the idea that at least one other person believed bullshit.

I live in a very conservative area, and my husband's bosses both saw it. Now one is a die hard Republican and was making comments afterwards as to how stupid it was when Moore went up to the congressmen asking them to have their kids go to the war. He said that this was stupid because kids go to war without their parents' approval, and that no parent would ever want to send their kid to war. The other boss is a total idiot, and we knew this before she saw f9/11. She had no comments other than "it's stupid, everyone who saw it says it was stupid, it's so stupid." So I don't know if that kind of erm...mind counts.

Oh really?
Tell your boss that my 11 year old son has a friend whose dad was a Marine in Vietnam and is "grooming" his sons to follow his path. Dad was almost KILLED in Nam...and has his oldest son (a 15 year old) spending his summer going to different Military Schools/Camps. The youngest (11 years old) can't wait until he's old enough to go. They want to be just like dad. So, your bosses "theory" is total BULLSHIT. THIS dad can't wait to have his son's become victims of war.

5. yes - an in-law said it reaffirmed her Repub stance but after |
|
she said this to a family group - a few saw the movie and changed THEIR stance - you can read about the episode here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2033435&mesg_id=2033677I think the movie greatly affects those who are not entrenched conservatives - the ones who still have their ears open. These are the folks most likely to gasp and move sharply away from bush.

7. I saw it the Sunday after it opened |
|
to a sell out crowd in Chicago. Two guys sitting next to me and my wife got up and bailed right after the 9/11 crowd reaction segment in the beginning. They walked out before the premise of * doing a lousy job and missed the entire film IMO.
That's it, out of a packed to capacity crowd in a brand new theater on the North side of Chicago.
It was so crowded there that when two friends, who I was holding tickets for, didn't show up and I announced that I had two extra tickets for sale at box office price I was instantly mobbed by people wanting to buy it.
For the record, even though I could have scalped them at a robber's rate, I only sought to re-coup the price of the ticket. I sold them to an elderly couple who looked the most disappointed that they missed the show due to a sell-out.
That's my F-9/11 story.

Are we talking North side suburbs or North side city? I live in the heart of Lincoln Park, which movie theatre are you talking about. I agree about the tickets too, that's awesome.

20. Ah yes, Landmark is cool |
|
But it costs too much. I LOVE the Music Box. You can buy the five admissions for $30 dollars AND you can use it on the weekends. I despise how Landmark charges so much to tickets, has a more expensive 'discount' pass and then you can't use the pass on the weekends. They run a good business based on their houses though. The price thing may be my poor college student coming through.

it--but they were already yellow-dog Democrats so it was just preaching to the choir. I also have some more conservative relatives who refuse to see it.
I have heard a mixed response from the students who I teach. It is about half positive and half negative (in my estimation). Half think Bush is a liar and a crook-they want to get him out of office. The other half think that Michael Moore is dishonest and manipulative, and they support Bush strongly. These are not likely voters, or even voters--most of these kids are not old enough to vote--I imagine that they are reflecting the opinions of their parents?
I have had a few children say VERY hateful things about some of the current administration (especially Cheney), one 11 year old boy scribbled an extremely nasty thing about Cheney on a desk a few weeks ago and I had to make him wash it off (cannot allow defacing school property). Once again though--most of this stuff probably just reflects the opinions of the parents--he only had the dimmest and haziest idea of who Cheney was and had no idea why he hated him so much--just parroting what he had heard at home. Not sure about anything--but I do know MY state will be safely in the Democratic column!

12. A friend's husband saw F9-11 |
|
and said the claims were groundless. My husband maintains that we just have to accept that some people are lost. Lost. We will never reach them no matter how many knowledgeable, honest people come forward and tell us the truth. The lost will never listen. They're calcified. Write them off and keep moving.

Although it has nothing to do with people liking it.
My son is 9 years old. I took him and my 19 year-old daughter. Near the end (about 15 mins from the end of the movie), he had to go to the bathroom. Thinking we'd run in and right back out, I took him to the restroom. Now, he's a boy and I'm his mom (woman), so we didn't go to the same place. I told him if he got out B4 me to stay put right there and wait for me. I came out and he was not there. Figuring I just got out B4 him, I waited. Another movie ended right across from the restrooms and all these men started going in and out of the men's restroom. Once, when someone opened the door, I hear my son singing on the toilet. I waited and waited. Men and boys kept going in and out. Finally, when the place cleared out, I cracked the door and told him to "Come on!!!" We got back in to the movie as the credits were rolling. I was so AGGRAVATED. I missed the end!
Now, I have to go see it again.

I read a review of F-911 in Florida State University's newspaper. The reviewer was a liberal student and he suggested, after seeing the movie, that students not waste their time. He definitely isn't a convert.

Not to be pissy, but a mainstay of Bushevik Lies is the non-attributed hearsay presented as "fact".
Got a link to the FSU paper?

I just searched the web-site, which is http://www.fsu.edu/~fstime/FS-Times/ and they don't put current issues online. They have an archive but it is only as recent as May 2004.

"wrong" F911 is, how many inaccuracies etc., but all have refused to see it. I've pointed out to them it's just a movie, and they should see it and make up their own minds, but then they say they don't want Michael Moore to get any of their money, and they change the subject to Clenis or something.

who is a seriously die-hard conservative, and basically went to see it with his mind totally made up, so I wasn't surprised when he said it was stupid. What really got me though was when he said that the amount of time spent on Lila Lipscomb was "just unnecessary." I was seriously stunned. How could you not be moved by Lila Lipscomb?
