How on Earth is it Air America Radio isn't broadcast in DC? |
|
I mean, the DC area is central to the theme of nearly all the programming on AAR. Why is there no station near DC? Auugggh! (I can only really listen to radio in my car, and it's a POS car - no XM, and never will be because that would be investing more in the car than the actual vehicle is worth... And I'm getting rid of it soon.)

However, if that continues for another year or two, I think it is safe to safe that the more gentle Putin-like control of the media that both he and the Busheviks strive for (in order to preserve theillusion of Liberty) is at work here...

4. There is limited bandwidth. |

Im sure there are several cities they tried to get airtime on, but they probably couldnt find a station that would sell the time at a low enough cost or at all.

6. AAR is, whenever possible... |
|
...providing daylong programming package on the stations where it appears, as opposed to providing individual shows.
There just aren't going to be many stations changing hands, and/or making complete format changes, at any one time.
If AAR only syndicated individual segments, they wouldn't build a brand, and would probably be reduced to providing 'token liberal' programs for 'ghetto' timeslots on all-talk stations.
Or so I've heard.

8. Shhh...Someone else said that here months ago... |

...and still saying it. AAR would do a hell of a lot better just getting individual shows on stations or focusing on getting one show really flying (the Rush model).
Buying stations...even small ones...are a major waste of money and valuable resources as the property values are vastly overpriced and then you have to pay for the transmitter, property, lawyers fees and so on.
AAR got burned on barter deals in Chicago & Los Angeles and I suspect they're not ready to throw cash at an operator...especially for the money some of these guys are asking for.
There's a very partisan Democrat in Chicago who owns several radio signals in this city...one of them would be ideal for AAR in this area, but prefers to sell the airtime to a Catholic network that pays more than AAR would for the same time.
The network is still paying for mistakes early on and time will tell if they can really make this thing fly. It's not for trying, that's for certain.
