Current Administration's effect on education funding
Hello everyone!

I am putting together some information and I am trying to find non-partisan information concerning the current administration and education. As we all know, education is largely a state issue, but federal funding (as in Title I) has an impact. Does anyone have information as to how the following has effected state budgets (specifically education):

* Bush tax cut
* Failure to fund "All Poor Children Left Behind Act"
* Medicare/Medicaid Funding
* War Spending

Any help on the financial connections would be greatly appreciated.

1. Here's a few great sources
First place to go for any information concerning NCLB and the state of education is Susan Ohanian's web site: http://www.susanohanian.org

Another great source is
http://www.nochildleft.com

Here's an article on underfunding from the NEA
http://www.nea.org/lac/archi0103.html

And another from the Alliance for Excellence in Education
http://www.nea.org/lac/archi0103.html

Hope these help

2. I have something else to add instead of something for that list
I think everyone should know that much of the right-wing aims for the extinction of public schools (thanks mostly to the religious right) and to make it necessary "drain social programs in the bathtub" in order to finance the permanent tax cuts for the wealthy (Grover Norquist).

I think that should be broadcast far & wide to the mostly unsuspecting & uninformed public.

4. Don't forget the failure to fund ...
Special needs education to anything like the levels the Feds are required by law. I think the last numbers I heard were around 25% to 30% with a requirement to fully fund. With approximately 10% identified special needs, our school spends nearly 20% of the budget.
