What to call a Christian Coalition for the Left?
I need help with names, because I'm working on something. If there were say, an online progressive activist presence of Christians, what's a good name for it? And who would be interested in joining it?

I realize from your past posts that you hate Christianity, but isn't it a little irrational to say that Christians could not possibly support candidates and philosophies that make sense?

Then again, if someone believes in a Deity, their entire brains and capacity for logical function must be corrupted, right?

Unless of course you equate "shoving in your face" with "existing in visual range of your face." There is a difference, I assure you.

12. I don't think so at all. Maybe you didn't realize that
the ones who make the most noise about being "Christians" are usually the ones who usually go out of their way NOT to follow the teachings or imitate the actions of Jesus? Like those in the Christian Coalition? I really think if he were living in these times, he would be exposing their hypocrisies just as he did with some religious groups back then.

Like Randi Rhodes said a few weeks ago, if he were here today, what would Jesus do? He would throw up!

I count myself as one who tries to be worthy of the name "Christian," but I consider it an insult to be lumped in with those of Robertson's/Falwell's ilk. They have given Christianity a horrible reputation.

But some of us actually do have brains and are not afraid to think critically. And we have a lot more in common with you than you think. So please don't paint us all with the same broad brush (something they do very well).

14. Act Justly
He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

Micah sounds like it's the Old Testament - I've been out of Catholic school too long to remember this stuff - so maybe you want something from the New Testament.

Try playing a little Bible roulette and see what you find. Just open it up to any page, put your finger down and see what name God gives you. ;)

28. Found an interesting radio segment when I googled "Christian left"
Description:

March 18, 2004
The Christian Left

For the last two decades, the Christian right has defined religious politics in America, but liberal Christians were once an influential voice.

Guests:
Douglas Rossinow — Historian at Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and author of the book, The Politics of Authenticity: Liberalism, Christianity, and the New Left in America

Kenneth Wald — Political scientist at the University of Florida, director of the Center for Jewish Studies, and author of the book, Religion and Politics in the United States

29. There are many groups out there......
They just don't yell as loud as the Christian Right. I'm a relatively conservative Christian (Biblically). I'm also very liberal politically, and I think my political views are in line with the teachings of Jesus. I'd be very curious to hear what you are putting together. I've often felt like getting involved in something "louder" to counter the Religious Right. Something that can effectively speak to "Evangelicals". If 40% of these folks voted democrat, we'd never see another Repub prez.
