Archives Employees Suspicious of Berger... devised coding system, marked documents they knew Berger was interested in canvassing, watched him carefully... employees determined draft and all versions of 'millennium memo' had disappeared from files after Berger viewed them, WASH POST set to report, say sources... Developing...

2. Sounds like crap...
but if true, it's only "not good" for Berger. It has NOTHING to do with John Kerry or George Bush or anyone else.

7. just think, though: his putative secretary of state
unmasked as, what, nuts, or a spy, beholden to hidden interests?

this would go a LONG way toward cementing the junta's hold on national security issues

this could be terrible, if true

wonder why they haven't been talking to him, though, and I wonder who these sources are.

same ones who say he stuffed his socks?

still, you KNOW the media will trumpet this above the 911 stories, AND the convention

doesn't matter if all this crap you mentioned is true, cause the media will fall all over themselves repeating it, til it's cemented in the national consciousness

Or are they relating the two?

because he told C.Rice all they knew about OBL either right before or just after Shrub took office. Then they said they knew nothing. I am so tired of Repub crap.

16. As Berger's lawyer recently stated....
everything he looked at in the archives were COPIES of the original documents. The 911 Commission also states they received a copy of the "millennium memo" so what exactly are they trying to insinuate?

20. Drudge now has a link to Washington Post
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A4189-2004Jul21?language=printer

Last Oct. 2, former Clinton national security adviser Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger stayed huddled over papers at the National Archives until 8 p.m.

What he did not know as he labored through that long Thursday was that the same Archives employees who were solicitously retrieving documents for him were also watching their important visitor with a suspicious eye.

After Berger's previous visit, in September, Archives officials believed documents were missing. This time, they specially coded the papers to more easily tell whether some went missing, said government officials and legal sources familiar with the case.

The notion of one of Washington's most respected foreign policy figures being subjected to treatment that had at least a faint odor of a sting operation is a strange one. But the peculiarities -- and conflicting versions of events and possible motives -- were just then beginning in a case that this week bucked Berger out of an esteemed position as a leader of the Democratic government-in-waiting that had assembled around presidential nominee John F. Kerry

snip.....

22. Wash. Post also has child rape video
of children in Abu Ghraib. Why don't they do a story on that?

"Photographic and videotape evidence of this torture is currently in the hands of the New Yorker, the Washington Post, the U.S. Congress and the White House. It must be released."

25. Actually, I heard someone on one of the shows.......
say just about that. Why would they use THAT tact with a former Nat. Sec Adviser to the POTUS? I mean, wouldn't you think they would just ask him if he had anything that he should have left there rather than setting up a sting for him? This still stinks!

I mean, why would they suspect him of anything? I mean, if anyone could view those records it would surely be him. I dunno. Stinks I tell ya!

27. I'll wait for the facts to come out. There's an investigation.
No need to get hot about unverified sources and quotes from stories with no links.

I've heard stories of him stuffing his pants with papers, stuffing his socks, stuffing his clothing. Please. Give me a break. They make it sound like he should have been sounding like rustling paper walking out of there, what with all the paper he had stuffed on him. It's just not plausible.

Doesn't sound right to me.
