Hey Duers PLEASE HELP, go check out these two commercials
and see which one you like the best: http://www.jeffsmith2004.com/

Jeff Smith is running for Gephardt's seat in Missouri's 3rd Congressional District. He is a close friend and a very progressive Democrat. He is also one of the original Dean Dozen.

This is a solidly democratic district and we have the luxury of electing a progressive Democrat to this seat for many years to come. We need your help to make Congress a better place for liberals by electing Jeff Smith.

I have worked with Jeff from early in his campaign and I can personally attest to the fact that he is one of the smartest and hardest working progressive liberal democrats I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Jeff is not scared of being a liberal. He opposed the war in Iraq from the very start. Jeff recognizes that the first and most important thing to do to extricate us from that mess is to get rid of George Bush.

He favors a single payer universal health care system. He is strongly pro-choice. He oppose conceal and carry gun laws (which is a big deal here in Missouri). Jeff has a great line; he says "if John Ashcroft is for it; I'm against it." I have met few people in my life as dedicated to social justice as Jeff.

We started as an unknown in this race and have become one of the frontrunners. We finished the last quarter with most cash on hand and have the largest staff and group of volunteers of any campaign. Last weekend over 250 volunteers showed up for an organizing convention to recruit voters and canvass neighbors.

Jeff has produced a very exciting documentary and we are making thousands of copies that we intend to distribute to residents of the 3rd District. Unfortunately this all takes money and we are running against several established politicians.

One of our competitors is Russ Carnahan, the son of Mel and Jean Carnahan. While I greatly respect his parents, Russ is not the dedicated progressive we need in Congress. He is running on family name alone to make the next step in a planned political career. As a Missouri state senator he had one of the worst attendance records of any senator. As party chairman, he presided over a milque toast election campaign that resulted in the Missouri State Senate flipping to Republican control for the first time in decades. We need better than that in Congress.

PLEASE DUERS, help our campaign any way you can. Even if it is only a few dollars, please go to Jeff's website and make a donation. Every dollar counts. We really can win this race. We are leading now and all we need is help to make the final push.

DUERs add $.02 to your donation so I can tell Jeff that the money came from you guys.

Please help me keep this thread kicked for a day or so.

1. OH, Ste Gen!!
My ancestors were early settlers of Ste Genevieve. Tell him to run on a platform of making Ste Gen the Williamsburg of the midwest! Are some of those French homes still little more than junk yards? That just kills me.

He's running a pretty risky campaign strategy, sounds awfully liberal for that part of the country to me. I'll give some money when I can. The ads didn't work for me, I don't know why.

4. He's running on a platform of healthcare for everyone in Ste.
Genevieve and I hope that is good enough, but I will mention the Williamsburg thing. :)

10. So have you ever been to the "home of the throwed rolls"
to eat? I always see the sign and never have stopped there. I hear the food is fantastic.

2. High energy definitely
The other one comes across as a Queer Eye For The Straight Guy outtake. Playing basketball with the black guys was a stroke of genius!

3. Jeff is a great basketball player. He is 5'5" but started in
the competitive high school league in St. Louis. He was the only white guy on his team who started. Jeff went to North Carolina and majored in African American studies. He played club basketball at NC.

I voted for High Energy too.

6. You don't have to convince ME that he knows a few things about basketball
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 12:36 AM by rocknation
I'm not a novice, and I'm not blind.

If I gave the impression that I thought he did the basketball footage just to "get in" with minority/young voters, then I owe everyone an apology.

9. You didn't leave that impression at all.
I just like telling people that Jeff was a 5'5" basketball star in high school. It is kind of symbolic for the campaign and how we have taken on the top dogs of the Dem party. What really gets them is that we are winning now.

7. I prefer the high energy one for several reasons
He's seen WITH people of all ages and demographics, he covers issues and creates a sense of community and he generates a positive message.

The tough talk one really doesn't work because he doesn't pull it off.

His website looks great though and it would be GREAT if he could incorporate the YOU'RE FIRED talking points into a slightly different approach..he's WAAAY to naturally sincere to do the cowboy talk thing and he should capitalize on that which appeals people to him...GOOD LUCK with the campaign and thanks for busting your ass!

8. I agree 100%
He has the "your fired" worked into the 30 minute documentary and it works much better there.

11. High energy.
It's a positive message about the candidate. While I liked "Fire Bush," we're going to fire Bush in November. We don't have to support this candidate to do that. It sounds like he should have Ben Cohen make a stop in town to campaign with him on "Fire Bush!"

I'll be happy to donate. Remind us around the first, when payday gets here!

12. Thank you so much.
We have really poured our hearts and souls into this campaign and it now looks like we are in the lead. It is so gratifying to see people embracing a progressive agenda, I get pretty emtional just thinking about the possibilities if we all work together to elect decent hard-working people to Congress.

There's something that hits me wrong about the cardboard cut out - I don't know what

Anyway - seems like a great guy and we need progressives like Africa needs AIDS drugs!

I will contribute YaYa - no problem!

15. The great thing about the high energy bit is that it is
a shorter version of a 30 minute documentary that sends the same message. The dcocumentary plays the "Fire Bush" in it. We are putting thousands of copies of the documentaary on the streets of St. Louis this weekend. It all plays together really well if we can pull it off (and I am confident that we will).

If you have any other creative ideas for spreading the message, I am all ears.

Jeff is a great guy.

Thanks for the support Chavez!

Last weekend it was the Neville Brothers, this weekend, Steel Pulse.

Have you seen any good music lately?

Forgive my blatant self interest, but we are so close to winning this race and every little bit of help we get pushes us closer to victory.

I like "You're Fired." People are way too used to fast-edit commercials. A candidate needs a concept to break through.

BTW, you have to donate to vote at Jeff's site.

21. That is what alot of professionals say.
Several people who really know the politcal ad industry like "Your Fired."

You do have to donate, that is part of the plan, to raise the money to run the ads as much as possible.
