Wal-Mart Facing More Chicago Opposition
Ooooh.. lots of good stuff in the paper this morning!

---------------------------------------
From the Bentonville (Arkansas) Morning News

Unlike in the song, Wal-Mart is not exactly finding Chicago a toddlin' town when it comes to doing business.

First the Bentonville retailer had to fight to open a store on the Windy City's west side -- for which it finally received approval -- but then failed to win consent to open a second store on Chicago's south side.

Now the company is facing two possible ordinances that would require it to pay a certain wage, provide a minimum level of health insurance and annual wage increases and also guarantee 40 percent of all products stocked be American-made, according to a report in The Chicago Sun-Times.

The proposed ordinances would not just impact Wal-Mart, but also other big-box stores looking to develop in the city. Alderman John Moore introduced what is being called the "Big Box Living Wage Ordinance" and said its chances of passing are "very good."

1. I hope the ordinance does pass
and the additional costs are not all passed on to the consumer.

2. Wal Mart can burn in hell
We should all press our communities to pass living wage ordinances if the Fed gov will not do it.

3. Of course the extra costs will be passed on to the consumer.
It'd be a farking miracle if they weren't. That is how companies do business.

4. But KMart, Target and CostCo are strong in that area
If WalMart passes the cost on to their customers they won't be priced under their competition.

That is why it will be interesting if this bill passes.
