Patriot Act Gives Bush Power to Cancel Elections - must read!
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 09:18 AM by RebelYell
"Political analyst Al Martin writes that the legal mechanism and contingency plan for canceling US elections is already in place. The contingency plan in question is the Continuity-Of-Government plan (COG), first drafted in 1949 under the Truman regime shortly after the Soviet Union detonated its first atomic weapon," Martin explains.

In addition to COG, "Bush has this power under Patriot I Act with the expansion of his authority under the War Powers Act of 1947, since, it should be remembered, a declared state of national emergency already exists in the United States at present," Martin writes in his column, "Canceling US Elections: It’s Easier Than You Think."

~~~~~~~~~
According to the release by the White House and the US Election Assistance Commission, the White House is supposedly just asking the Election Assistance Commission to work with the Attorney General and establish a legal mechanism, wherein George Bush could change all 50 state constitutions, as well as county and municipal election laws in one fell swoop -- in the event it became necessary to postpone the elections.
~~~~~~~~~

"The only reason Bush would need the underlying state constitutions and county and municipal election laws to be changed is if he intended to invoke his authority to permanently cancel elections."

4. Read your history:
it's Nazi Germany all over again, and since SMIRK is the grandson and great-grandson of Nazi sympathizers, this SHOULDN'T come as a SURPRISE! I believe SMIRK was and still is an ardent admirer of ol' Grandpa Prescott Bush! And I'll bet ol' Prescott is smiling up from HELL even now, proud of what he thinks his grandson MAY achieve!

14. Hi Bayside
Welcome...I hope it won't happen. But if the chimp already has the authority, you think he won't use that authority to keep himself in power? I don't put anything beyond the chimp.

7. More info on Al Martin
~~~~~~~~
"Then there's the site operated by Al Martin, who introduces himself as a retired naval officer who worked in the Office of Naval Intelligence and was a player in the Iran-Contra affair. He's published a book called The Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran-Contra Insider and started up an Internet site at www.Almartinraw.com.
~~~~~~~~

Martin watches closely to see who's hitting his site. "I get a lot of hits from the FBI. They're looking to see what information may have gotten loose and is floating around out here.

~~~~~~~~
While the issues these three "alternative news" sites cover seem to have no common denominator other than suspicious populism, they assuredly share mistrust of corporate and government bigness and of the national press - hardly anti-American notions. And their common experience is that the government/corporate entities being written about want to know what's being said about them.
6. still looks like hearsay
There's no actual cite of language of the Patriot act that says it gives authority to suspend state constitutions in the link you provide.
Sounds unconstitutional to me also, so even if it is in the Act.
But I'm open to persuasion.
This article just doesn't cut the mustard.
edit-- that is, in the original link.
8. Al Martin testified before Congress for the Kerry Committee
~~~~~~~~

In the past, Lt. Cmdr. Al Martin (US Navy, Ret) has testified before Congress for the Kerry Committee and the Alexander Committee, which investigated the illicit deals of so-called Iran-Contra.

9. i want to make up my own mind
not have to rely on what he says it says.
The original link just quotes him.
The Martin link is a paid site and I haven't registered.

Lots of credible people can make mistakes. His credibility is not the issue.
