The Republicans are going to teach my neighborhood about community!
As part of a new campaign called "Compassion Across America," Republican delegates are coming into my heavily gay, liberal, multiethnic neighborhood to teach us about community....

>>Here is a television image that organizers of the Republican National Convention are fantasizing about: Protesters clog the area around Madison Square Garden, inconveniencing commuters and being arrested. Cameras pan to Republican delegates feeding the homeless in the Bronx, packing up supplies for Iraqi schoolchildren, passing time with poor children in a Staten Island day camp.

Starting on Saturday, convention officials will begin a highly organized nationwide campaign to get volunteers to donate blood, feed the hungry and operate community health fairs. Initially, it will be part of a broader effort to draw attention away from the Democratic National Convention. But the campaign - known as Compassion Across America - will continue at the Republican National Convention in New York in August,<<

My partner and I plan to give a lesson about compassion ourselves. When the Republicans start their cleanup activities in Prospect Park we will take every opportunity to hold hands, exchange juicy kisses and open Republican minds to the concept of two women who dearly love each other, have been together for 13 years, and plan to stay together for life. I extend an open invitation to other New Yorkers, gay and straight, to engage in public displays of affection with same sex friends while the Republicans are "teaching" us about compassion.

1. I doubt that would do anything more than reinforce their own beliefs

and the rightness of their mission to extricate people like you from public society.

Juicy kisses as a sign of protest? Surely there must be a more effective way to point out the utter manipulation of the press by the Republicans than by feeding their twisted perceptions.

What about holding signs that say GOP Compassion for campaigns - NO compassion when you govern.

7. Actually...

we wouldn't be doing anything we don't do in everyday life and something that most heterosexuals take for granted.

I like the idea for the sign.

10. Actually, most heterosexuals would find that in bad taste.

Ever heard the phrase, "get a room"? Most heterosexuals think big juicy kisses shouldn't be done in public: hetero or homo.

11. LOL. My husband and I were yelled at in the middle of NYC sidewalk
for a spontaneous display. Boy, did we get dressed down. My very shy spouse turned red. I guess hee just wasn't expecting that anyone would notice or care.

12. Perhaps we'll tone it down then
We'll hold hands and put our arms around each other just like any other couple.

We wouldn't want to shock the Republicans, would we?

2. Instead, organize local Dems to clean up Prospect Park BEFORE the
Republicans get there.

They will arrive and seethe with frustration because there isn't a leaf out of a place or gum wrapper outside of a trash can. :-)

6. What a great idea!
My neighborhood happens to be one of the nicest, most tolerant, most cultural and multicultural, most caring communities in the world, and family oriented in the truest sense of the word. What gall the Republicans have to want to teach *us* compassion.

Of course the park is right across the street from the home of Sen. Schumer....

9. What an excellent, POSITVE...
...utterly devious response. I love it! Also, if you get a chance, politely ask the Replicants what other community service projects they've done - preferably while on-camera.

5. Could you find two gay GUYS to kiss in front of them...
I mean lesbian kissing is just hot!

You might make them stain their trousers though...

(admittedly being a tad sexist here - but all in good fun)
