Um, we already paid for this with our tax dollars, but we have to PAY to see it again!? This is OUTRAGEOUS!

Congress today, it will also go on sale at bookstores throughout the country.

The same-day release in book form of the report meant that the publisher, W.W. Norton & Co., had to secretly print it and airmail it under wraps to bookstores.

The concurrent release was an idea put forward by Commission Chairman Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey governor, who argued that the public should have the same access as government officials.

More than 500,000 copies of the report — some estimates are as high as 700,000 — have been printed.

Good God. What the hell is going on!?

11. READ BEFORE CLICKING ON ABOVE LINK
That link goes directly to the pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file which launches Acrobat Reader to open the full 585-page report. It's enough to crash some resource-scarce machines.

This link goes to the CNN webpage that has the pdf files broken up into chapters that you can open separately:

2. What's the problem?
I got if for free and am reading it. For those without computers, I'm sure there will be plenty of copies available in public libraries. If people want to pay for the report, let them.

3. That's only if you want a paper copy, isn't it?
As others have pointed out the report will be available online. Some people prefer to have it in paper, so they are printing it. What's wrong with that? The Starr Report went the same way, if memory serves.

4. This is normal
The Warren Commission report, the Tower Report on Iran-Contra, and the Starr Report are examples of reports sold in paper version in the stores.

Amazon has it for $8 in paperback ($10 list), but I guess they have to pay for the paper, right?

Makes sense for the people who really want a copy. Otherwise, it would be a waste of money if everybody got a copy.

You can download the Adobe Acrobat version for free from a number of sites.

8. Anyone can print it and sell it, even you
or you could print it and give it away. It is basically 'open source'.

9. Remember they sold the "Starr Report: too.
That definitely was the crime of the century and worth paying for.

10. I used to work at a bookstore
and I remember when things like the new Harry Potter books would come out. We had to keep it under lock and key until the release date, and you'd get in a shitload of trouble if a copy got out there.

Wish I still worked there; I could've mailed a copy to Kerry's campaign before the official report came out.
