Subject: My goodness we're a gutless bunch.

Gay groups, by request of the Kerry campaign and the DNC, cancel a performance by Margaret Cho during the Democratic National Convention citing "fear of a potential media firestorm" a la Whoopi Goldberg. Chalk up one for the Republicans.

1. There's "gutless" and then there's...
avoiding a problem because it's really not worth the headache when they can just as easily do something else instead. I think they call that "prudence". Seriously, I can think of worse things to happen than Margaret Cho getting canceled.

9. Just calling it a "problem" is giving in to their BS
We do not have to jump every time the GOP-controlled media starts one of their attacks.

10. Typically, I'd agree
But we also don't need to be playing into their hands either. If we're talking policy issues, absolutely NEVER back down. THAT I agree with. But we don't NEED Margaret Cho. She isn't going to advance policy. All she's going to do is make a few crude jokes. I'd rather see Kerry blasting Bush on the front page than see her making off-color jokes.

14. But just the idea that we are capitulating is grotesque!
STILL falling for the Bushevik fantasy Bubble as if we've learned NOTHING!

STILL falling for the 400 Freepers with 20 e-mails each lie!

While I agree that we don't need Margaret Cho, per se, what matters is what it tells about the Party.

The Party is nowhere NEAR fit and strong enough to represent Free America against the Imperial Family, even in our hour of need they are clueless and they cower.

MAYBE it could be argued that some minor stiffening of backbone has been seen, but for anything big, it's business as usual.

Wholeheartedly, in fact. You have to pick and choose your battles. Margaret Cho isn't a battle we want to be fighting right now.

19. I didn't say I wanted to fight it, just not capitulate
Let the Bushevik Party-Loyal Sub-Media howl...they are going to do it anyway even if they have to fabricate stuff.

Fuck 'em. They give NOT A SINGLE THOUGHT as to what would piss us off. They don't care.

In this regard we should emulate them. The Bushevik Totalitarian Sub-Media will do what they do (lie, shriek, intimidate, fabricate) NO MATTER WHAT!

She tells the truth and does it in a funny way. She is articulate in defending gay rights. And she could bring in disillusioned people who might otherwise not vote.

Hey Kurt, man.

This is That Guitar Man from Central Park

I've dedicated my career, muic and the rest of my year to removing Bush from the Whiote House.

Most of the email I get has been overwhelmingly supportive.

But, in some ways, I've been taking it on the chin. My latest album has songs on it called "Tired of Being Lied To" and "Where'dat Money Go" and "Where's the Voice"...

And, my new single is called, "Get Out Our House"

Well, the level of visciousness in some of the emails I've received has been unbelievable. But MOST of the messages, from now-former fans, say essentially the same thing.

"David, Shut up."

I won't.

I'm David Ippolito

8. OK wait a minute
Was the request to stop the whole GLBT event, or just Cho's appearance?

Anyone got a link?

If it's the whole event, I kind of understand... they might have considered planning it for just AFTER the end of the convention, so that the news wouldn't be eaten up by Cho's funny jokes made during the GLBT event... that would be red meat for the corporate-media to throw to the bu$hgang for sure.

Three ethnic women in two weeks: Whoopi (Black), Linda(Hispanic), Margaret(Asian). Are there any high profile Arabic women? That seems to be the only female ethnic group they haven't hit yet.

included controversial speakers like Patrick Buchanan and Pat Robertson - it succeeded in driving away "moderate" Republicans and swing voters.

We don't need that... IMO, the more the convention plays to the middle, the better.
