LAST CHANCE TO DONATE TO KERRY/EDWARDS!
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 04:32 PM by Skinner

THIS IS IT! THE FINAL DEADLINE TO DONATE TO THE KERRY-EDWARDS CAMPAIGN!

There is only one week left to donate to The Kerry-Edwards Campaign. When John Kerry accepts the Democratic nomination on Thursday night, July 29, his campaign can no longer accept donations. If you still haven't donated, NOW IS THE ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE!

And while you're donating, you can sign up for the Kerry/Edwards email list, and you can sign up to volunteer. Everyone can help out in some way.

MAKE YOUR DONATION COUNT!

I have set up a personal John Kerry supporter page, under my real name "David Allen." If you donate to Kerry's campaign through my page, we can easily keep track of the donation total from DU members! Just click this link to visit my page and send your donation:

My supporter page: http://volunteer.johnkerry.com/member/178307

Look for the link on the right-hand side of the page that says "Make Your Contribution Now."

Thank you.

3. When You Wrote The Following...
"When John Kerry accepts the Democratic nomination on Thursday night, July 29, his campaign can no longer accept donations. If you still haven't donated, NOW IS THE ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE!"

... I'm assuming that this is a new provision of the campaign finance laws. Correct?

Does this also mean that the Kerry/Edwards campaign website will no longer be able to sell Kerry/Edwards hats, pins, tee-shirts, stickers, signs, etc?

Is the profit from such items considered to be a "donation" and therefore prohibited?

-- Allen

I know you're not a lawyer... but maybe someone will read this and know the answer.

5. I am not a campaign finance expert, but here's my understanding:
John Kerry is accepting federal funds for the general election, so he cannot take donations for the general. The primary ends when he accepts the nomination on July 29. After that point, you can't donate to his campaign any more.

However, you will still be able to help him by donating to the DNC. And you will still be able to help other Democratic candidates by donating directly to their campaigns.

I do not know about Kerry merchandise sales. My guess is that they will still figure out a way to sell their stuff, but that's just a guess.

22. What happens to the DNC $$$?
I'm still very confused about this deadline thing. So after he accepts the nomination he can't accept donations to his campaign... BUT the DNC can accept money. But what's happening to that money?

Is that money going to be distributed to local campaigns? (congress, senate, sheriff of nowheresville, etc)

Is that money going to be distributed to local offices for the Kerry campaign? (paying salaries for staffers, long distance phone bills, stamps, etc)

Is that money going directly from the DNC to the Kerry campaign but has to stop flowing once it reaches 75 million?

Someone please help me... I'd like to donate more in the coming months but want to know where my money is going.

47. You buy stuff from kerrygear.com
which is not the campaign, but a company that is licensed to sell Kerry merchandise. Those are not campaign contributions, it is you buying products with which to express your support.

29. Just gave $100 - my biggest single contribution ever!
Before this year, I've never given a penny to a candidate (and my first election was Carter in '76). But I've given $50 each month to Kerry since he clinched the nomination. I figured I double it to $100 for this most important time.

Hey folks, if you haven't got it figured out by now: WE HAVE TO WIN THIS ELECTION!

I've been seeing a lot of Bush/Cheney bumper stickers here outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. and very few Kerry stickers and, frankly, I'm a little scared.

Like it says at the end of the credits for F 9/11: DO SOMETHING!

44. I believe you are mistaken.
A presidential campaign cannot accept any more primary campaign donations once the primary is over. The primary ends Thursday night, when Kerry accepts the nomination for president.

Kerry cannot accept general election donations, because he is taking federal funds for the general election campaign. For Kerry, the general election campaign begins this Friday.

48. email from Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry campaign manager

Tomorrow night is a critical fundraising deadline for our campaign. Finish off this phase of our campaign with as strong a showing as possible.

Dear Friend,

There are fewer than 48 hours left to make your last direct contribution to the Kerry-Edwards campaign.

In the months ahead, we'll be looking to you to support the Democratic Party as it pulls John Kerry, John Edwards, and other Democratic candidates through to victory in the general election. But in the next 48 hours, you and I have one vitally important piece of business to take care of.

http://contribute.johnkerry.com

Hundreds of thousands of you have come together to break all fundraising records. George Bush, Dick Cheney, the pundits, and the media thought we would be overwhelmed by the Republicans' enormous bankroll. You proved them wrong. Because of you, we are about to enter this general election stronger than any Democrat in history.

In the next 48 hours, we have to finish off this phase of our campaign with as strong a showing as possible. The media will report our final fundraising numbers as a sign of our ability to win this election. Make a contribution by visiting:

http://contribute.johnkerry.com

In March, you gave us the first push, launching our campaign against George Bush; in April, May, and June, you kept our momentum going. We've beaten his fundraising four months in a row. Think about that accomplishment: we beat the biggest, big money fundraiser in history with the power of our grassroots. But our work is not done; we need to finish strong.

http://contribute.johnkerry.com

One last thing: I need you to forward this email to your friends and family who care about the future of this country. Ask them to contribute before our deadline. A strong showing now will make all the difference on Election Day.

Thank you,

Mary Beth Cahill
Campaign Manager

Thank you very much for your generous contribution to the campaign. Your support helps the campaign build our team against the powerful special interests of George Bush. Together, we can build a stronger America.

While I am certain you are asked to give to many causes, your commitment to my campaign and to the larger political process is humbling and much appreciated.
