"2,000 people booed Linda Ronstadt off stage in Las Vegas"
I distinctly heard Carol Lin/CNN say this verbatim in my stupor this morning. Yeah, CNN, I know they have sold out....

but it still irritates me!

1. The pathways of Imperial Bushevik Pravda are well-worn and tested
Any half-truth can be falsified, any lie laundered into Conventional Wisdom.

And yes, CNN is a huge part of it.

30. Stop the spread of disinformation in its tracks. The truth is here:
The real story here is how blown out of proportion the "reaction" to Linda's comments has become.

Initial reports led me to believe that there were massive boos, people walked out and threw cocktails into the air and ripped down concert posters. I thought the concert ended in something like a freeper riot, and Linda was hustled out of the Alladin by her jerky-hosts.

However, this person, apparently an on-air anchor in Las Vegas, offers a completely different version of events:

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Jul-20-Tue-...

"I was so stunned to read in the newspaper that anyone had a negative reaction," said KLAS-TV, Channel 8, news anchor Paula Francis. "Everyone who was leaving when I was leaving was just thrilled. They thought it was a good concert."

At the end of an hour's worth of singing, "she got a standing ovation, then she came out and did the (`Desperado') encore," Francis said. "There were loud boos and there was quite a bit of applause. But everyone calmed down right away and seemed to enjoy the rest of the encore."

That's really not the way it's being portrayed at all... and from the reporter's account, no way did 2,000 people boo Linda in unison.

I mean, can't these wingnuts tell the truth about anything?? Why must everything be so over-the-top, so embellished?

:grr:  :grr:

2. something else I heard was that "people ripped Ronstadt's
posters off the casino walls".

That has got to be a lie--I have been to that casion (a while back)--and yes there are posters advertising celebrity entertainment--but at least when I was there they were under glass.

People are just working overtime coming up with their lies.

25. Do you undersand indirect channels of influence, Zip?
Ever worked in a corporation, zip, when they wanted to get people to do something, but didn't want them to KNOW they were being manipulated into doing it?

You have got some reading to do, pal. Start with David Brock's "Blinded by the Right" to see the genesis of the Sea Changes the Busheviks have wrought on our media.

And try this link...

28. Another reading suggestion for you, zip...
... try Joe Conason's excellent "Big Lies," which pretty much answers, in-depth, your query about what CNN would have to gain by spreading disinformation.

If I want to read him I will. I do not need your false recomendation. The other stuff I have seen seems interesting but how do I know those authors are not writing with a partisan agenda?

5. Not to mention
If a patron goes around detroying casino property why wasn't the casino goon squad activated or the police called? Vandalism is a crime regardless of the reason. It's all BS.

6. I get the same thing....
90% of the response to my latest album is positive. The 10% of negative response comes in the form of viscious and thoughtless emails and posts on my website.

My name is David Ippolito.

Hundreds of thousands of people know me as That Guitar Man from Central Park

(Go ahead - Google me)

It's all okay, though,

I have dedicated the rest of my year, my music, my career, to removing Bush, and the men and women around him, from OUR White House.

If you're coming to New York City the week of the RNC Convention, look me up. Alot of cool stuff going on.

http://www.thatguitarman.com

Sunday afternoon, August 20th - in Central Park.

Wednesday night, September 1... big concert on Central Park West.

12. I like that song
....

You and me the people and its ours to keep,
Yet it's our House.
You and me even get to say who sleep,
Inside that House
There's a man there now but he don't belong
Majority of people didn't go along
Now it's up to people who know right from wrong,
To sing this song.

And we sing, hey hey, hey hey hey,
Get out, get out of our House!
We sing hey hey, hey hey hey,
Get out, get out of our House!

...

thanks for the link and keep up the good work!

It's a casino for God's sake. They've got video cameras everywhere.

So let's see the footage so we can decide for ourselves.

15. Totally ridiculous —
the way this story is begin exaggerated, it'll soon be 20,000 people!

Here's what was said by concertgoers who WERE ACTUALLY THERE:

Some concertgoers took issue with the Aladdin's accounts of angry patrons tearing down posters and throwing drink cups.

18. I ask again...
WHERE are the rest of those folks that were in the audience? Is Paula Francis the ONLY ONE taken aback by the hoopla??? That she's a TV news anchor just makes the whole thing that much more bizarre! :freak:

21. They probably applauded, stood up and left, since it wasn't newsworthy
enough to hold people there. Paula Francis may have been filming the show for some reason?

But the only one making the outrageous claims is the Aladdin owner.

24. CNN lies, plain and simple
I was on vacation recently and spent some time with some friends who actually watch CNN for information. I told them that if we watched the show for an hour, I could point out at least 5 bald faced lies- and not just from their right wing guests (whose innaccuarcies invariably go uncontroverted) but from their anchor.

It was too easy. We only made it through 45 minutes and I think the count was somewhere near twelve (we were watching Judy Woodruff, so it was like shooting fish in a barrel).

37. Eat Shit, cnn!
"Prospective Aladdin buyer would invite Ronstadt back"!!

snips~
On Wednesday, Planet Hollywood Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Earl, a partner in the group that won the right to buy the Aladdin in bankruptcy court, said that, if his group takes over the Aladdin, "we would like to offer the use of the Theatre of Performing Arts to Linda Ronstadt for a second concert and further to take Michael Moore up on his offer to join her on stage to introduce her and sing a song."

Earl's Planet Hollywood group is awaiting Nevada Gaming Commission approval for the purchase, which Earl said could come as early as Sept. 1. The sale would give the Aladdin a very different management philosophy regarding performances at the resort, he said.

"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," Earl said. "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13-year history, restricted any artist's right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership."

Much more interesting news on the new owner's management style!
