I see a great deal of similarities between the PNAC and supply
side economic theory in the way both of these were sold to the American people as the panaceas that will solve all the problems, one in the realm of politics and the other one in the realm of economics.

In the last twenty years, the supply side economic theory, which even the elder Bush called Voodoo economics, has been shown to be nothing but a claptrap concoction peddled by the smiling Ronald Reagan to a country hungry for good news. With the introduction of the Reagan tax cuts, the deficits ballooned out of sight and many of the ills that hound us today are directly traceable to that period.Yet, the Republicans, relying on our amnesia, keep repeating the idea that tax cuts somehow miraculously revived our economy. The Goebbelsian propaganda that keeps this lie alive has now been transferred to the PNAC concept of bringing Freedom and Democracy to the benighted people of Iraq in a sort of a reverse Domino Theory which was the raison d'etre of the Vietnam War.

This lie of the PNAC crowd has also found defenders who will keep repeating it ad nauseam until it will become the accepted wisdom of our punditocracy whose connection to reality is tenuous at best.

For those of us who keep seeing our country being exploited by the collective ignorance of an endless supply of opportunists who have ruined our economy and now ruined the lives of many fine young men and women, there appears to be no end to the tragedies this nation has to sustain at its own hands. We need to change course soon and develop a healthy skepticism of the panaceas prescribed by these charlatans
as if we are looking at another diet fad to hit the infomercial circuit.

1. Selling enemies
I think it all comes down to control - control of the economy and control of the world. They have had success with these "programs" because they are packaged with hatred of the "enemy."

In SS economics the enemies are all the undeserving who are taking from the wealthy who deserve everything they have - and then some!

PNAC is selling hatred of all parts of the Middle East that do not recognize Israel as a "territory of the US." They denigrated what they called Old Europe in their quest for domination.

Fascists know that it is easy to stoke hatred in a climate of fear - divide and conquer.

3. wages lower than '80: racism keeps Repubs in power
Is it not true that wages are now lower ... correctied for inflation... than when Reagonomics began? thus is a proven failure ?
Only AA radio can end the lie of tax cuts = prosperity.

As Clinton said , "retax the rich."

I think the secret strength of the repubs is the racist voter. I imagine that the racist will vote for bush even if he knows he will lose his job and live in poverty. Racists see minorities as the true cause of everything wrong today. Using wildly twisted logic/data.
Just like the way germans had the delusion that jews were the real cause of their woes in 1930's.

Anyone have data proving racism is the big draw for bush votes? I have no data, only my guesswork. Help me with studies, please.

5. Your right too
And have you ever noticed how the pro-life movement increases the birth rate of whites and decreases it of blacks. (welfare reform)
It sounds wacky but I bet if anybody researced it they'd be surprised.

4. You right
They've created an economic and political model that consolidates money and power into the hands of a few. Why people keep voting to bankrupt themselves is the biggest mystery. The next infomercial diet fad is ta da.......
THE OWNERSHIP SOCIETY !!!!!!!!!!! Coming to a theater near you.......

the mystery is solved, if i am right... see post above yours... i think racist voters will pick poverty over letting minorities get equal rights.

7. This country ,which had a thriving economy during the Clinton
years, has once again been ruined by the idiotic ideologues who inhabit our power structure. The great economist Cheney pronounces the deficits don't matter because Ronald Reagan said so.Of course, in Cheney's opinion, RR was also a great economist! The same Cheney says Iraq now has Democracy and Freedom, even after the Abu Ghraib revelations.

The men in Bush's socalled Administration have ruined our country economically, politically, morally and even militarily. They should have about as much credibility as a used car salesman trying to sell a used Yugo.Instead,we see these men treated with deference day after day instead of the ridicule and contempt they so richly deserve.

8. difference -- the American people have no frikkin' idea what PNAC is
if they did, if the goddamn MEDIA would tell them who is actually running their country and what they want to do, they might decide they didn't like it.

9. I agree. It was a stealth policy that was put in place without any
participation or discussion by the Congress. That shows that the PNAC gang was apprehensive that if fully exposed the American people would reject this crazy scheme. They found a useful idiot, George Bush, to steal the presidency and put their plan in motion.

10. well said and true!
Very nice, Veggie Meathead.
"...both of these were sold to the American people as the panaceas..." Yep, they went right from FreeMarketeers to Caped Fighters of Global Evil, without ever even pausing for breath or stopping to scratch themselves. And, I don't think Merica even noticed!
