Wolf Blitzer has really OD'ed on the Kool-Aid...
In the intro to his "hard news" (Hah!) show, he says the 9/11 report is "brutally frank". This shill is too shrill! :argh:

1. I'm reading the report right now
and frankly i agree with him. The detail is really in the end notes. The total incompetence of the FAA and the airlines in terms of security procedure is very distressing and obvious. I'm only halfway through the first sectin regarding the hijackings themselves and it really brings me back to that awful day.

7. Point is...
If they didn't blame Bush, they didn't get it right... plain and simple! They can blame "intelligence failures" 'til the cows come home, but as long as they give Bunnypants a pass, the American people are once again duped.

13. While I think that Bush clearly was negligent
The commission is pretty clear that they are not trying to assess blame and they were VERY clear about that in teh press conference they held today. They quite clearly stated they were trying to avoid all forms of partisanship. Until I finish the report I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this aspect of their reporting.

As anyone who has ever held a position of leadership will tell you, there is only so much you can do. The whole point of leadership is to provide general instruction and then to delegate. I tend to agree with Richard Clarke's assessment of the situation more. That Bush should have been "shaking the trees" and that he took the overall threat lightly. The mandate of the commission was to report on what happened and this is what they appear to have done.

For one minute let's assume that these people truly understand the importance of what they are doing in sheer National Security terms. Is it to our benefit as a nation to assign blame? I think so. But that is a judgement call, many would argue that the best thing to do is to identify root causes and to suggest solutions. This is what the commission has done. Personally, I think the first step in the process is to elect John Kerry and to arrest all the fuckers in the Bush administration who were asleep at the wheel and too busy counting the cash from their tax cut to actually realize the threat we were facing. Either way I'm not going to throw the commission under the bus until i finish reading it. I'm about 30 pages in (and i'm reading it VERY carefully...i usually read at a clip of about 100pps/hour but i'm doing this at about 20% of my normal reading pace and taking breaks to digest it...and to be honest i need to take breaks because I alternate between incredibly angry and welling up with tears when i remember what that day was like) and to this point I would agree that this report is VERY frank.

16. My comments may appear too glib...
but I really am angry at the Bush administration over 9/11 and a thousand other things. I really appreciate the fact that you are taking the reading of the book and the purpose of the commission so seriously. You are right to do so. Thanks for a great post!

18. Thanks.
Seriously go out and buy this thing. The $10 is well spent. Reading the account of United 93 is heartbreaking. Since Bush took office I have lost all faith in the media and while we have all heard the stories about how the passengers revolted, it is very different to read about it in the context of this report. Regardless of how you feel about what happened on this day (incompetence, LIHOP, MIHOP) the passengers on this plane were heroes (this is true regardless of whether the plane crashed or was shot down as some believe). What they did that day needs to be repaid and the first step is to kick out the bastards occupying our government right now.

9. I haven;t seen it either, but apparently John SKEWERS Leslie
most satisfactorily

Not that it wouldn't be easy. The man is equivalent to the 1938 Berlin Radio announcer.

To skewer a piece of Human Garbage like that is both honorable and fufilling a duty to Free America.

Which Stewart does most every night!

10. Doh! Of course...
I might have known that Big Jon would have made hash of that little Ex-U-Boat Commander.

I still laugh thinking about Mike Malloy calling him that and using a fake German accent.

14. You should be listening to Randi. She's ripping the commission
to shreds. Says that they were too friendly with the WH and so they couldn't be critical of them.
