'Planes, i never thought terrorists would use planes to attack us.'

Lack of intelligence award goes to you know who.

Bush/Cheney Lack of Intelligence.

1. Thank you.
The buck for 9/11 stops squarely on her desk.

If she, as National Security Advisor, had heeded the warnings from Richard Clarke and DONE HER JOB, the attacks may have been stopped.

And I say that we already have a position that ties together the CIA, FBI, NSA, etc. and that is NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR. She didn't do her job plain and simple.

She should have been fired right after Sept. 11. I mean, what does that TITLE MEAN?

5. Plenty other people could picture this scenario.
I mean, haven't there been plenty of movies and books about terrorists using planes to attack buildings?

And she couldn't imagine the possiblility even after the 'Bin Laden Determined to Strike America' PDB? Stupid, stupid little liar.

12. she would have if they'd been Russians!
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 07:07 PM by Lisa
C'mon, Japan was outside of her field of expertise. It's, like, the next country over.

Although -- come to think of it, there WERE examples of this kind of thing by the Soviets.

"A bright school pupil might also have conjectured that a hijacked airliner could be used by a suicide as a "ram." Ever since WWII, films in many countries (and not only in Japan!) have showed pilots "ramming" their planes against enemy aircraft and all kinds of vulnerable ground structures. Playing a war pilot, a Russian boy would shout "Ram attack!" and plunge into a park bench or his playmate."

10. Yep
Is it just me, or does anyone ELSE remember a movie whose scheduled release date was changed due to 9/11? The scenario was VERY EERILY similar to what actually happened on 9/11.
And there is no way that entire movie could have been conceptualized, written, acted, directed and produced AFTER 9/11. The concept part, at least, had to come BEFORE 9/11 happened, thus proving Hollywood has more imagination than Condi Rice!

14. Pilot Factor
Maybe we just didn't want to think about it but;

I think most people thought a suicide plane would only have 1 or 2 passengers on board. A twin engine Beech or at the outside a FedEx freight plane. But "Civilian Airliners"? I don't think people seriously thought of this. We lived safe in our incorect assumptions that the Pilots could always make certain that this would never happen.

Chester Nimitz, 1945.

8. Hmm. Contrast with the previous administration ...
Clinton read the SF novel "The Cobra Event" and started worrying about bioweapons attacks. Arguably the country was more prepared for the anthrax attacks than it would have been, otherwise.

http://www.dotcomeon.com/clinton_combats_cyberterrorism.html

Aren't security experts supposed to consider all different types of scenarios -- even things like BSE and global warming, for example -- and TRY to see through walls and around corners? You can't hope to be successful if you're only focused on things that have already happened (e.g. Dr. Rice's previous work on the Cold War).

16. A Liar.
Rice is a liar and she is incompetent. She was window dressing for the black Rethug. image. Plenty of fault to go around but she would have been fired in any other job with her performance this awful. In this Twilight Zone time those that are screwups are praised. Look who is supposedly the Pres. of the USA. This has been and is the most shameless and disgraceful Admin. in recent history. DISGUSTING!!!

13. On Page 274 of the 9/11 report:
There was substantial disagreement between Minneapolis agents and FBI headquarters as to what Moussaoui was planning to do. In one conversation between a Minneapolis supervisor and a headquarters agent, the latter com=plained that Minneapolis’s FISA request was couched in a manner intended to get people “spun up.”The supervisor replied that was precisely his intent. He said he was “trying to keep someone from taking a plane and crashing into the World Trade Center.” The headquarters agent replied that this was not going to happen and that they did not know if Moussaoui was a terrorist.
