Bush campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Millerwise said the president would likely discuss economic policy and the war on terror. “We will be working hard to increase our support in the African-American community in Michigan,” Millerwise said, noting that Bush-Cheney chose to launch its national black voter outreach campaign Monday in Detroit. “That sends a loud and clear signal.”

That signal won’t be enough to get the vote of African-American Tonya Gulley, a 33-year-old Detroit financial representative. While she praises the president for speaking to the Urban League, she said Bush has “neglected the working black man and woman, and the children growing up in poverty. He didn’t come across like he cared.”

An EPIC-MRA poll conducted July 6-8 found 84 percent of African-American voters in Michigan favor Kerry, while it detected no support for Bush. The poll also found African-Americans were far more likely than whites to hold an unfavorable view of Bush: 68 percent compared with 41 percent.

Retired Ford Motor Co. welder James Mallory of Detroit called Bush’s speech to the Urban League “showboating,” to try to calm African-Americans like himself who were angry that he didn’t speak to the NAACP.

Yes that reads "detected no support for Bush". Right on! Not speaking to the NAACP was the best thing he could have done. I think this state might finally be swinging in the right...er left direction. :hi:
