"The System Was Blinking Red" - 9/11 Report does NOT let Admin off hook
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 08:00 PM by scottxyz
Many media outlets are spinning the 9/11 report various ways - most of them saying Bush isn't to blame - or saying both Bush and Clinton were to blame - or "institional failings" were to blame - or "failure of imagination" was to blame.

I commented on the various contradictory, mostly exculpatory media spins here:

But let's look at the report itself. This chapter of the report sounds like it's saying Bush and Condi had their head in the sand. The title of this chaper is "The System Was Blinking Red."

1. I loved shrubs response today

"If we had an inkling that the attack was coming, I would have
moved heaven and earth to stop it."

PDB entitled "Bin Laden determined to attack within the US".

Hmmmm. Inkling, huh?

3. I am so tired of that "heaven and earth" line
He and Condi said it a lot during the 9/11 commission hearings.

Must be some buzzword Rove told them to use.

8. He is "God:" so he is able to move Heaven and earth

That is the message that he is trying to send.

He is out of his mind! When will this end.

2. "more than 40 intelligence articles in the PDBs relating to Bin Ladin"
"There were more than 40 intelligence articles in the PDBs from January 20 to September 10, 2001, that related to Bin Ladin."

Tax cuts, tax cuts, vacation, tax cuts, undoing Bill Clinton's executive orders, vacation, "reviewing all policies" (pretending to be adults cleaning up after children), vacation, complete review and reorganization of the Pentagon, tax cuts, vacation, investigating missing keyboard keys ("W"), vacation, tax cuts, investigating Clinton's pardons, tax cuts, ....

So who's this bin Laden guy?

Besides, over the past ~50 years the gubmit had spent trillions on the national defense (largely driven to unconscionable excess by paranoid and opportunistic hard line Repigs). After all that there's no way anything could happen. We're safe. Nobody would dare challenge such a monolith.

4. If failure of immagination means
they were fucking asleep at the switch, I'll buy into that. And if the republicants spent 1/10 of the energy trying to help Clinton get Bin Laden instead of hounding him about consentual sex, there might never have been a 9-11.

7. "Ashcroft told him that he did not want to hear about the threats anymore"
"There is a dispute regarding Ashcroft’s interest in Pickard’s briefings about the terrorist threat situation. Pickard told us that after two such briefings Ashcroft told him that he did not want to hear about the threats anymore. Ashcroft denies Pickard’s charge."
