sounding halfway intelligent in a radio interview once. Not joking. I didn't know it was Quayle until I heard the announcer at the station break. Dub is just flat ass dumb.

Sure, he occasionally made an ass out of himself, but he did the job that Poppy foisted on him, a Nixon-like attack dog counterpart to Poppy's (wishful) Ike personna.

Dumbya is merely a frontman for a bunch of wingnuts with illusions of grandeur. He's too afraid to veer away from a script, or do anything spontaneous. At least Quayle could think and act on his feet. That, I'll give him.

11. Quayle had experience when he became VP

8 years as a senator and 4 as a Congressman. He at least had a basic understanding of foreign policy. Now I see him on TV and now that he's older and more seasoned, he does not seem all that dumb, though he is a terrible speaker.
