The "Berger" thing baffles me
 After reading "Against All Enemies," I see no reason for there to be any reason for this to be considered a "scandal". Here is a guy who is an outstanding employee, who actually took terroism very, very, seriously. Clarke talks so highly about him and DOES mention the millienium thwarted attacks. I saw Clinton talking about this and how Berger always buried in paper work.

Why was he in the archives to begin with? Was he getting material to present to the 9/11 commission? This is what baffles me.

1. He was researching and taking notes...
before appearing in front of the 9-11 Commission. I guess he just wanted to be well-prepared.

2. Yes, he knew he was going to have to answer questions from the commission

He was gathering information to do some studying so he could provide solid answers to all the questions from the commission. he made handwritten notes while he was in the archives and he walked out with his own handwritten notes mixed in with his own papers in his portfolio. he did NOT stuff "top secret documents" down his pants, in his socks, or anywhere else. that is PURE Karl Rove spin. the whole affair was hardly "scandalous".

3. He took no original documents
and if he was doing something wrong and was seen why wasn't he stopped by the security people? Think about it, if he had top secret classified docs he wouldnt of made it out of the building because the "Terrahrists!" would get a hold of them. This is all bullshit to divert the heat from the report.

4. Something just doesn't feel right to me to.
Could he have 'taken' those copies home to make sure that the Bushies* didn't change Clinton's record?

7. I have been wondering where Clarke is
I thought he was a consultant for ABC...

8. yes - that's right. I last saw him on Nightline (Mar/Apr) but Sandy
Berger's story has featured Clarke giving commentary.

I wonder if his consultant status at ABC precludes him from talking shop with Rand Beers - who is Kerry's coordinator for national security issues. Clarke had switched to cyber-terrorism in the bush White House before he retired.

According to the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where Clarke and Beers are adjunct lecturers, they teach a course together about terrorism.
