Getting tired of those 40 "Plame Indictment" threads since I'm 99% sure...
nothing will come of it. The boy can cry wolf only so many times.

I'm beginning to feel the same way about the "GIs raping Iraqi boys" story.

These trees have fallen in the woods 4000 times and we here on DU are the only people who have heard them. And we already hate bush, so why waste the time typing about it? The media do not care. They do not listen when we email them (as I have done dozens of times.)

I think we should spend more time registering people to vote than obsessing over stories that never come to pass (that's my personal late-summer resolution anyway.)

2. Ooh, and add Ms. Edmonds to that list
As despicable as the gag order is, no one will ever, EVER hear what she has to say.

Fuck, even BBV struggles to make it to the papers.

Because 'the media' refuses to cover stories, we here at DU should stop waisting our time discussing non sanctioned news events.

I think if the Plame thread people want to spend 5000 threads trying to keep this and many other disgusting abuse of power stories alive we should be grateful instead of scornful.

Nobody is asking you to read them.

I agree that writing letters to Fascists is an exercise in futility, however keeping stories alive is quite different.

6. "keeping the story alive"
That's the problem. The story is dead. No, that's not true -- the story doesn't exist. We here at DU cannot birth it. And that sucks, but it is the unfortunate truth.

My point is, instead of having to start that 41st Plame thread, let's find ways to use that 10 minutes more wisely and more fruitfully.

And I don't read them. Just think they're silly. IF indictments come down that'll be exciting, and I'll want to talk about that. Of course, they'll be handed out the same day that bush claims some democratic senator forgot to wash his hands after taking a piss and congress will have to be shut down for public health reasons and Blitzer will spend all day talking about urine-born disease.

I'll talk about that to. But all this speculation (and repetition) isn't helping keep any story "alive".

7. If, and this is a big "IF"
indictments come down, it won't happen until after the election. Should they come down now, cries of "Foul!" "Politically Driven!" and shit will be the order of the day and credibility would be sure to take a hit. Look at the reaction to the Berger story! "Foul!" "Why Now?" "Politics!"

14. It is obvious you don't read the threads!
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 01:20 PM by StandUpGuy
Your hypothesis regarding the eventual Plame indictments while humorous is irrelevant.

The threads discuss much more than "lets guess when the indictment come", they have discussed and dissected this and other related issues until you thought there was nothing more to discuss. Then sure enough a new piece of information emerges.

Do you really think that talented DUrs would write over 2000 posts about speculation. Please don't insult people that you have admittedly not read.

Start a thread called "Fighting Fascists" or "Why letters to Fascists won't work"

But don't spend the valuable time you complain these people are waisting criticizing that which you know not.

Perhaps if they changed the thread title to "Plame, the tip of the iceberg" you might not have objected.

11. Eventually these stories bubble to the surface
BBV is a prime example. It took two years before we started seeing serious news coverage. But the story bubbled up from the internet.

12. If you don't like them, hide them.
That is a feature built into DU. Just click the little "x" box next to the thread.

As far as "managing" what the rest of us do with our time and energy, would you like us to "manage" yours?

15. "Manage"?
I don't think I said I wanted to "manage" anyone's time. But thanks for the hint about the "hide" feature. I'll use it.
