Could Nader's pandering to the Buchananites/wingnuts hurt Bush?
He's now soaking up money that could be going to Repugs. Also, he's starting to pander to the Buchananites dread of illegal immigrants--an issue where he's more to the right than Bush himself.

Could Ralphie wind up biting the Repug hands that feed him--or is this wishful thinking?

1. You'll have to explain how his immigration position is right-wing.
To me, any issue that benefits Americas working class is left-wing, any issue that benefits the wealthy is right-wing.

Competition from cheap, illegal labor clearly benefits the wealthy at the expense of the working class. Naders position is left, if you ask me.

2. The Buchananites oppose immigration not because of concern for the working
class, but rather out of xenophobia.

Bashing illegal immigrants used to be standard right-wing talking points to appeal to white racists.

What's a bigger problem for the working class--the guy who's willing to work hard and dirt cheap, or the robber barons looting our economy? The scandal isn't competition for job, but rather a lack of good jobs being created.

3. To me, the problem is the rich paying
below minimum wage to illegals, which I believe is against the law. But the problem is both parties are guilty of this, and probably Ralph himself has hired someone standing on the corner in front of Home Depot. This problem will not be resolved because all political parties are totally for cheap labor with no benefits.

4. To answer your question,
it's the illegal alien who is a bigger problem. If there are no illegal aliens to hire, the robber barons have a more limited labor pool to choose from and are forced to pay decent wages. It's basic supply and demand. The robber barons want to flood the labor market and depress the cost of labor. It's not the illegal aliens fault for wanting to work, or doing the work, but the presence of illegal aliens most definitely harms American workers.

I agree that extreme right-wingers hate oppose immigration because of xenophobia, but that doesn't mean that every who opposes it opposes it because they are xenophobic any more than it means anyone who wants to legalize illegals and expand immigration does so out of a humanitarian concern for the plight of the third world's poor.
