Montana to Declare Independence if Bush Re-Elected!

http://www.godlikeproductions.com/bbs/message.php?message=390508&mpage=1&topic

MISSOULA - A group of activists is pushing for a ballot measure in the upcoming State of Montana that says if George W. Bush is re-elected as President of the United States Montana will automatically become an independent country.

The measure is expected to be on the ballot as a result of the highly organized Libertarians and survivalists in the state. "We´re tired of the federal government dictating what we do and squandering our tax money on foreign entanglements," said Second Montana Militia Commander Frank Morris. "George W. Bush has proven to be fiscally irresponsible and diplomatically inept. If this is the way the rest of the country thinks we should be headed, they´re going to have to go without us."

13. Yo, pally, I was born in Missoula, Montana
And that remark really pisses me off!
If I wasn't so busy trying to get a date with this new sheep in our herd, I'd kick your ass.

Montana, where men are men and sheep are scared.

But you know, dog fucking leads to things like sheep fucking and box turtle fucking, which leads me to believe that Santorum has been having an affair with John Cornyn's box turtle.

And the turtle, the way I've heard it, is the one that fucked Santorum.

36. haha yep
Well I am sure Cornyn is jealous, I bet you the turtle is beaten for sleeping with Santorum but maybe they enjoy threesomes, Cornyn, the box turtle, and Santorum. I hear though that Cornyn's been sleeping with the box turtle's sister which could land those all a spot on Springer. "box turtle fuck ups"

2. Well
It's good to know the anti-government militia types are at least consistent in their distrust of concentrated federal power. This would never happen but if this guy's opinion is any indication, this is a group of VERY conservative people who are angry with the Bush administration.

7. hilarious
I read once that Montana is one of the states where the highest percent of income is from some sort of federal dollars. Without heavy subsidies from Washington DC, there would be no Montana.

Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 01:28 PM by Cleita
Even in Western Montana where people actually call them neighbors, they are regarded a bunch of harmless crackpots who enjoy the moonshine too much.

However, I got to hand it to them for getting what Bush is about right.

Some unifier, that War Chimp - starting WWIII and a new American Civil War. Montana may be on to something, though. I hope California follows suit.

20.  I didn't say it was "good" just perhaps necessary.
These Montanans want to secede because the Constitution is being destroyed. When South Caroline wanted to secede it was because the Constitution was being upheld and defended! That's a BIG difference, bub! If Jefferson were alive today, I'm confident he would approve of this talk!

41. Either it's unconstitutional, or it's not
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 02:22 AM by LarryBaker
SC didn't believe the constitution to be upheld by the Union, but the justification is beside the point. And what about the New England threats of secession over the 1812 war? New England should've been allowed to secede too?

But maybe more states should work for secession. It would probably be the most effective way to put a stop to America as the imperial world police.

What about the New Hampshire Free State project, I've heard mentions about that. Is that mainly a libertarian thing?

19. Actually, CA would have to have all the states west of
the Continental divide, which includes the western half of Montana. All these states are interdependent on each other, for water, for coastal access, for agriculture and many other reasons. California would probably have the best chance of going it alone, but we are still dependent on other states for water and energy, so it would be better for the western states to secede as a bloc. However, I think all fifty states should secede from Washington D. C., set up a new improved version of the USA and just leave Bush and his cronies as the head of a small city. Works for me.

10. Ten Years Later, Same As Ten Years Ago
http://www.mtssa.org/mssanews.phtml?newsid=14

MISSOULA - The Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA), a state-wide, political-action organization of gun owners, has announced plans for a constitutional amendment to repeal Atricle I of the Montana Consittution, which is the Compact with the United States. MSSA is prompted to to take this step by congress's passage of, and the President's signing of, the Crime Bill which contains a ban on many different semi-automatic rifles (called "assault rifles" by the media and the uninformed), a ban on magazines which hold over ten rounds, and a de facto firearm registration scheme called "grandfathering".

15. Article 1 of the Montana Constitution
ARTICLE I
COMPACT WITH THE UNITED STATES

All provisions of the enabling act of Congress (approved February 22, 1889, 25 Stat. 676), as amended and of Ordinance No. 1, appended to the Constitution of the state of Montana and approved February 22, 1889, including the agreement and declaration that all lands owned or held by any Indian or Indian tribes shall remain under the absolute jurisdiction and control of the congress of the United States, continue in full force and effect until revoked by the consent of the United States and the people of Montana.

I think it's interesting how this is specifically laid out in the state constitution. Does anyone know if other states have this as well?

12. This is hilarious!!
Would you believe...

Wait for it...

I am leaving Seattle and moving to Missoula Montana NEXT WEEK! No lie, this plan has been in the works for months (sick of the city, sick of the state, want to live in the Rockies, property over there is cheap, etc etc).

I just spewed coffee all over my monitor. Man, that stuff hurts your nose when it comes out like that. Anyway, I guess you can all look for the long-haired bearded blonde on CNN now, that'll be me.

:D

16. You'll love the area
Missoula is a bit away from the rockies, but go North to Flathead Lake
(my kicking grounds way back when) and you'll see an offshoot of the rockies, the Mission Range which is pretty impressive.

Property is cheaper, cost of living is lower and the pace is just a bit slower, but it is a University town and is not as 'Kentcukified" as some of the posts suggest. Big negative: Marc Raicott is from Montana.

I think you will enjoy Missoula. It sure beats Yakima, Washington!

23. Thanks
::grins:: Lived in Yakima for quite awhile when I was younger. Are you trying to say that "Kansas" Washington somehow isn't riveting? :)

But thanks! My plan is to work in Missoula for a couple years and then look into buying a land up in the Bitterroot Valley (indeed toward Flathead). I grew up on the other side of the Rockies in Idaho, so that's the sort of climate I'm looking to get back to. Plus if I ever see another $*#%! seagull, I'm going to throttle the thing. :)

22. Do you know Montana?
There are some fairly liberal areas, Missoula being one of them. Great Falls and Butte are pretty strong bastions of old-school union type Democrats. Even Billings, the largest and arguably most conservative city in the state, is more of a swing area. The state went to Clinton in 1992, thanks mostly to a large constituency for Ross Perot. There's a very strong independent, libertarian streak in this state...it's less conservative than any of its surrounding neighbors. It was controlled legislatively by Democrats until the late eighties and during that time had a history of Democratic governors. Also, until we lost our 2nd representative in the '90 census, we had one Republican and one Democratic rep (the Republican being from the more conservative eastern part of the state).

30. Montana is the most independant minded state perhaps in the whole
50 states.

What a great place! And, if they secede, I may have to go live there and throw my lot in with those Colonials against King George.

I just might...

(yes, yes I know probably nothing will come of it, but it's nice to speculate)

And this is the first I've heard about this. The Montana "militia" and "unabomber" are from out-of-state and have little to do with us "real" Montanans, who think they're crackpots.
