Woman Attacked by Alligator Died |
|
The landscaper who was grabbed by a 12 foot alligator has died in surgery.
Poor thing.
One thing about Missouri - we don't have alligators.

5. About 100 miles from me. Luckily the gators in my pond are only 3 feet |
|
I don't go anywhere near them though nevertheless. We have them taken out when they get to be 5-6 ft.
You've gotta be nuts to go very close to a freshwater lake in Florida.

6. Thank you for the link! |

Back home (Georgia) I would sit and watch the gators at night. Live around gators and you develop an interest in gator attack stories.

8. I hear lots of stories |
|
but mostly about people losing their dogs.
Did you see yesterday where the 10 yr old had a boa constrictor that tried to eat him?
I guess there are boa constrictors in Florida swamps now. And monitor lizards. All imported.

9. Didn't hear about the boa. Yeah, lots of idiots have attempted to raise |
|
animals then release them when they become too troublesome or too big.
We've had gators turn up in odd places because people get them when they are small and "cute", then release them once they grow.
After Andrew, many zoo animals got loose. Some are still in the wild. Mainly birds and monkeys.

11. I never thought about Andrew |

Some little boys here in Kansas City discovered an alligator (or caiman) in the Missouri River. It was two or three feet long.
I also heard not too long ago that a breed of fish - I can't think of the name - but they are normally kept in salt water tanks - lion fish, I think they call them. But some were found off the Florida Coast.
And, of course, the snakeheads that have made it into the Potomac River now.

15. In southwest Georgia there are pigs that became feral after the Civil War |
|
No one bothered to round them up and they learned to live in the wild. They are still there. Every now and then you can spot a family of them on the back roads. Very much feral and very much hostile toward humans. We had a male ram our car once in defense of his "herd", which included several young.
Hunters eat them at their own peril. The feral pigs have a veneral disease that makes humans sick when ingested.
I like that they have been allowed to remain wild. I enjoy watching them.
I'm in Kansas now. I see snakes every now and then...no gators though :)

10. I was just there last month, and |
|
I went on a guided tour of the "John Darling Wildlife Sanctuary" (which takes up about a third of Sanibel Island, I think). And the guide pointed out all of the brand new expensive homes that are being built right next to the sanctuary without any fences or anything blocking them. He said there was a group fighting the construction because obviously some of the inhabitants of the sanctuary would end up in their yards. I don't necessarily blame the alligator in this case.

12. You Can't Blame An Alligator |

They just do what they do. I think they have a brain the size of a walnut. Not the brightest stars in the night sky.

Lucky for me, he was an ancient thing and was blind.. This was at a place called Summit Gardens (in panama),. Our girl scout troop went there and my friend and I decided to cross a little pond by using the "log"... That was no LOG...
