Not to be a downer...........Even if Kerry wins I think............. |
|
we are screwed unless we take back the House. What the republicans did to Clinton will look like a walk in the park when Kerry becomes President. It reminds me of what some contacts in DC, military related, said about 2 years ago. They couldn't stand Rumsfeld or bush and said that from what they see going on that (paraphrasing) "even if a Democrat was elected President they would not be allowed to accomplish anything because the bush crowd have put their people in positions able to thwart the new President". We absolutely need to take back the House and Kerry needs to file criminal indictments against all that were attempting to destroy the Constitution and this Nation so that the people know what has been really going on.

flipping should be enough to get things moving. The media will be a big problem again when Kerry is president. They will no doubt be calling everything "_____-gate" again after a 4 year hiatus.
Kerry will name the next Supreme Court Justice and that will be a big help too.

5. Let's just win the friggin' election... |

...before we give ourselves ulcers over what-ifs!! Yes, we need to take back the House. That's why I expect YOU, OZ - as well as everyone else at DU - to not only volunteer for Kerry, but also for your local Congressional candidate. I'm working for Gwen Moore here in Brew Town. And if you live in an unchallenged Dem district, help a Dem beat the Replicant incumbent in a nearby district.

6. Plus Kerry has been working with these guys |

for years in the Senate, so he has a better idea of what he's dealing with, and how to deal with it. And I think the Republicans learned from the Gingrich era not to push too much, because it backfires on their asses.
"I shut down the government because the president didn't pay enough attention to me on Air Force One, sniff, sniff!" Ugh. Whatever. I think Kerry's made of sterner stuff than to take that crap.

7. That's possible but... |

...I also think/hope that it's possible that some of the more moderate Republicans that have been in the Bush administrations stranglehold will heave a sigh of relief and be willing to work in a more bipartisan spirit now that they've experienced rightwingnut hell.

The momentum has been in the conservative's favor since Regan and their shadow Govt came into power. The Clinton years slowed their progress which immensely pissed them off. They threw everything they could at Clinton for 8 years and just barely slipped by to get one of their drones into the oval office. The level of effort, resources and money they have spent has merely pulled them even with getting 1/2 the registered voters on their side. If we can cobble even a mere fraction of the organization together that they have and get out the vote, we should be able to kick the living snot out of them. We've been asleep for a few decades. Time to wake up and kick some ass.

11. Thanks for reminding us that we must think beyond a Kerry win. |

But I do not think this problem can necessarily be solved with a Dem-controlled House as the problem is rooted in the Executive Branch.
Yes, the Executive Branch is stuffed with well-placed neocons who will seek to undermine Kerry, if he wins. Locating these moles and neutralizing them will be difficult -- but not impossible. Also, I think a Kerry Administration will be better prepared to deal with such treachery, simply by virtue of having seen what was done to Clinton.
