Al Gore walks out to the Convention podium and says......:
"It's time for...them....to....go! America deserves better than George W Bush and Dick Cheney. Isn't it amazing what a big difference only 4 short years can make? Are you better off now than 4 years ago? A chicken has a head this big (.) and it has the sense to get out of the rain. America has been in the rain since this bunch stole into office. It's time to send them home."

1. If Gore had been this forceful four years ago...
...and chosen a better VP candidate, we wouldn't be having this problem!

2. I don't think it mattered who the VP was
The repukes still would've stole the election.
I think Gore/fill in the blank vs. Shrub/Dick in 2000 was going to be close no matter what and I think it still would've come down to Florida and we know what happened there.

3. If Gore would have sworn in as president,
The Clinton Bashing would have instantly became The Gore Bashing. With the criminals in a repug controlled congress, 9/11 could still have happened. Then Gore would have been impeached for not personally knocking the planes out of the air.

5. That's assuming that nothing in history would have changed with....
different leadership. Two planes would still have flown into the WTC on Sept 11th, no matter who was in charge? I don't know if I accept that theory, almost fateful...

18. You fateful theory ....
assumes that 9/11 was planed in 8 months and that the Corporate elite foreign policy that has been carried out for the last 45 years had nothing to do with 9/11, Afghanistan, or Iraq.

However I think that it all would have been the same under Gore.

The post about Gore being impeached is bang on the money IMHO.

21. Under that theory, it doesn't matter who we elect president.....
The same stuff is going to happen anyway? So why vote?

25. Well thats a very tough question
As an outsider it appears the question Americans have to ask themselves is...

Am I prepared to be bought off with domestic hand outs to play along with a corporate foreign policy?

If the answer is no then I agree that there really is only a limited choice. Even then that vote would work counter to your domestic goals.

I think I'm most stunned by the bloodless coup that occurred in 2000.

I hope that in my country if such an event had occurred there would have been demonstrations until the democracy was restored. I also hope my opposition wouldn't capitulate the way yours did.

I have seen the Moore film with the CBC fighting.
I have also herd the rebuttal from the Dem's deciding the were going to settle for a share of the committees.

Even if you were naive enough to think the Republicans were going to rule moderately, once the shit hit the fan they should have revolted and led America back from the brink.

After the way they attacked Clinton, after the 12 years of Reagen and Bush Sr. I find it hard to believe they were so naive.

It is a real wake up call for other democracies around the world.

26. Point taken, none of us fought hard enough, we know now...
But we have a military police force that will kill you in a New York minute if you step too far out of line.... We have free speech as long as we don't try to practice it...

12. We didn't have all of the issues back in 2000 that we're dealing with now
People thought things were going great in the country. People couldn't see that voting for Bush would be detrimental to the well-being of most, if not all, Americans. The economy had been so great, we had been at peace...we had taken many things for granted.

20. Including foreign policy.
My problem with the current choices given to Americans is that they have only domestic issues to chose.

There are no significant differences between Kerry and Bush on foreign policy.

IMHO it is the foreign policy that is haunting the US right now.

23. The differences may seem subtle now...
but I don't think, for example, that Pres. Gore would have taken us to war in Iraq.

27. Had Clinton not continued sanctions....
And continued the unsanctioned No-Fly zones I might agree. (no where were they mandated in resolutions or cease fire agreements)

The No-Fly zones were not designed to protect the Kurds or Shia they were put in place to keep Iraq, while sliding into irrelevance militarily, free from attack by its neighbors.

Had they been put in place to protect the shia and Kurds Saddam would not have been able to crush the up rising after GW1.

IMHO this was to protect it as a future US asset once it was determined Saddam posed NO threat to the US military personnel on the ground.

Once the political leverage was put into place Iraq was attacked.

22. a kick from me and my chickens!
Actually they are only pullets -- brains are about the size of raisins -- but that's true, they have figured out how to perch and when it's feeding time.

I didn't know this, but in the early days of the Democratic party, the emblem was a rooster! They switched to the donkey later on. Symbols were used on the ballots because a lot of people couldn't read. And these days -- well, many of the GOP supporters WON'T read and only listen to FOX News and right-wing talk radio!
