"The Religious Right v. The Immoral Left"
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 06:39 PM by shylock1579
Saw this bumper sticker yesterday. Proud to be a member of the immoral left! Or should it be imortal left?

1. If I had known that I was inherently, irretrievably immoral

I would have had a lot more fun.

Boy was I a sucker,

2. Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing
is the sticker I'd place beside the one you saw. Most of these religious whackos aren't following the teachings of their master, and don't intend to. The leaders are in it for power and money, while the followers are either scared or intellectually lazy, or both.

(I mean no offense to true believers-I'm talking about the ones Jesus called 'hypocrites')

3. There was a thread last week asking if any DUers were clergy.
Lots of yays on that one. Bumper stickers saying something like:

Hey, that's 'REVERAND goddamned liberal' to you, buster!

might be nice, ya know, just to remind the wingers they do not own the franchise.

22. Jesus Specifically *FORBADE* Insults and Name Calling!

Two instances (I forget the verse and chapter #s...

"Make no oath. If ye answer, answer simply 'yea' or 'nay'"

and "If a man sayeth unto his brother 'raka' (thou fool) he is condemned to Hell. Call thou no man 'raka' that thou be not condemned to Hell."

These are paraphrases of course, but Jesus absolutely condemned name-calling! You could go straight to Hell for calling someone foolish! I think we're ALL doomed!

9. These folks seem to forget
Jesus was a revolutionary. He respected and loved "fallen" women; he respected and loved the poor and meek; he thought it was moral for the rich to help those less fortunate. Doesn't sound like many of the repubs I know--how about you?

14. I could put MANY stickers on my big ol' butt. I think I might get to a
UCC church this weekend. And if hubby gives me a hard time I will just give him an earful over it. *l* (More likely he will just opt to not attend church with us, thught I REALLY hope he does.)

Hmmmm, Methodist might be more of a compromise for you then, depending?

I don't get to Church often myself, too hard to get up real early on Sunday. ;)

The UCC near me starts at 9:00am UGH!

23. He's a Nazarene. They are branched off from Wesleyans and Pentecostals :)
Me, I am looking forward to going to the UCC. I really hope he will come because I have been going to his choice of church for years despite not always feeling comfy with what I've heard from the pulpit. Would be nice if it was the other way around, for once. *lol*

13. I've seen bumper stickers
popping up around here that say "I'm a Christian.....And a Democrat.

They are getting pretty popular.

Also, in a conversation with a co-worker today who is a devout Christian as well as a die hard Democrat, I asked him what he thought of the Religious Right. His answer was " that's a pretty dark form of Christianity they practice."

25. So according to this "religious" person ...
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 01:01 AM by BattyDem

It is immoral to believe that all people should have equal rights; and our air and water should be clean; and we should help those who need it; and we should only go to war as a last resort; and that privacy, freedom of speech and all the other rights guaranteed by the Constitution are important; and that our bodies, relationships and sex lives are none of the Government's business; and that access to health care and education should be a right, not a privilege; and ... well, you get the idea

If that's the definition of "immoral" then I'm guilty as charged ... and I'm damn proud of it! :hippie:
