9/11 Report Summary: In Case President Is Incompetent, Appoint Intel Czar
Isn't what they're saying? In the past, decisions about intelligence priorities would be presented to and considered by the president. Bush's incompetence to render those decisions dictates that to avoid this weakness in the future we must consolidate those powers in a new Czar.

Isn't that the bottom line of the Commission's recommendations?

11. ABSOFUCKINLUTELY!!!! Clinton would NEVER have to be told how to
run HIS intelligence agencies. That cartoon says it PERFECTLY!! Fucking Bush is an incompetent buffoon - he should be IMPEACHED just due to his INCOMPETENCE alone!!!!!!! Never mind the fact that his is a DESERTER and LIED about Iraq causing the deaths of THOUSANDS of INNOCENT civilians and a THOUSAND GOOD AMERICAN SOLDIERS. What a fucking lying piece of shit fool - I hate his fucking guts - passionately.

12. Umm read the whole report...Clinton blew it too
In case you missed the 9/11 report, it points out that the majority of opportunities to get Al'Qaida were missed during Clinton's presidency. Likewise, the internal intelligence problems that helped to allow 9/11 happen occurred during Clinton's watch, then barriers were put up between FBI/CIA by Gorelick, and when Clinton dropped the funding for CIA.

The 9/11 commission reccomendations match a lot of what Bush has already done, and point out a lot of what happened during Clinton's presidency as major problems....

14. The Gorelick barrier thing was debunked here yesterday!!!
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 10:40 AM by Mr_Spock
Why are you carrying water for the lying bafoon in the White House?

I was there when the Repukes were attacking Clinton from dawn 'till dusk. I know they have a hugh amount of responsibility in distracting the nation from what was REALLY important. Was he perfect? No. Was he obsessed with Bin Laden? Yes. Could you get the Bushies to even acknowledge that Bin Laden was a threat? NO

20. OK, so now you're equivocating and saying that both are to blame.
THIS POST IS ABOUT APPOINTING AN INTEL CZAR and, by inference, BUSH'S INABILITY TO INTERACT WITH HIS UNDERLINGS IN HIS OWN GOVERNMENT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PDB "BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK IN THE US".

18. It's getting a little tiresome, PLD
So you have read the whole report? I have it right here, so please tell me specifically on what page I can find the source of your allegations.

Pray tell, on what page does it say that Gorelick put up barriers between FBI/CIA, just for a start? On what PAGE? What special powers was she invested with that she could do such a thing on her own? Magical?

lol!

21. You don't have a clue what the report says, do you?
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 11:05 AM by sadiesworld
4 missed opportunities during the Clinton administration, 6 during Bush's

Ashcroft gave "misleading" and "inaccurate" testimony regarding the Gorelick memo. The regulations weren't applicable to the pre-9/11 intelligence and, furthermore, Ashcroft added additional requirements to those regs making communication MORE DIFFICULT. (per the 9/11 commission report)

Homeland Security. Dems came up with it, Bush fought it.

3. Well said, Stephanie! No lack of imagination.
The imagination a President needs would put together a CIA report saying Osama bin Laden is set to strike in the US with airplanes with an FBI report saying that terrorists are taking flying lessons across the US, but are only interested in turning jetliners left and right. Like, duh.

Still, it didn't make any difference for Bush. He had Tenet with his hair on fire. He had the Temporary FBI chief (the fellow who told the 9-11 Commission that Ashcroft couldn't care less about Al Qaeda and told him to "Shut up, already") running around saying what he knew. Then there's the State Department official who reported the funny business with the Saudi Visas and then got canned for doing his job and raising a red flag.

Remember Richard Clarke said if he had gotten the report about the flight school terrorists, he would have hit the panic button. Instead, that info never reached him.

Perhaps even that apparently wouldn't be enough. I think the BFEE treason has extended through the top ranks of the CIA, FBI, INS and the Intelligence Community. Otherwise those reports would have gotten to the people who COULD connect the dots and DO possess more than a modicum of imagination.

Then again, that doesn't take imagination. Protecting the United States from enemies foreign and domestic is a real President's job.

5. The person who was supposed to filter information from various agencies
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 07:26 PM by Stephanie

was the PRESIDENT. And in the past that's how it was done. You can listen to the tapes of the Cuban Missile Crisis (some excerpted in The Fog of War) to hear Pres. Kennedy command a rooom full of intel men before digesting their recommendations and making his decision.

NOW that we have an INCOMPETENT president, the Commission recommmends we dilute the power of the presidency and invest the intel oversight aspect in another entity. To prevent another 9/11.

That IS the recommendation. Right?

6. Not necessarily dilute...just spread responsibility around more.
Correct, DU Friend! The new czar would do Bush's job. But I don't think it would take power away from him, just responsibility. "Oh I didn't know that" gives him the mantle of the Bush family motto: Plausible Deniability.

The Little Turd from Crawford should have been impeached the minute Congress heard that he'd been briefed by the CIA on the ranch in August and did NOTHING about it. They are in on this treason, as well. Voters, if you're reading: Bush's GOP enablers have got to go.

You're right about JFK. The guy figured a way out of the missile crisis without having to incinerate half the planet. And ALL the Joint Chiefs, the Cabinet, the Congressional leadership were on him to press the go-button for all-out nuclear war.

It's a good bet we wouldn't be here if Nixon (or any Bush) would've been president. They're the public stooges of the War Party.

9. I'm watching that documentary tonight.
I kid you not. My wife got it out of the library and we've had it almost a week already. I've been working some crazy hours of late and have been anxiously waiting to see it.

Ford's best bean-counter McNamara is not my cup of tea. After the assassination, that so-and-so did what the War Party wanted. That meant going along with the faked Gulf of Tonkin incident, the fake "war is winnable" scenario, the "light at the end of the tunnel" lie, and the deaths of millions of innocent human beings.

About nine years ago, when I went to "meet the parents," my then-girlfriend warned me: "Don't talk about the Kennedys." She explained her old man is a staunch pug and so forth. I said, "OK. I won't bring it up."

So what happens? Everybody has a few gin-n-tonics and the stories start to fly. He asks me what I think about McNamara's book where he talks about the run-up to the war.

I laid into them all about the war, LBJ, Nixon, and Kennedy. And I gave them what's for about Cuba, the Bay of Pigs Thing, the Missiles of October and the whole nine yards.

Tomorrow, they're all coming over for a cookout. Now the guy is a GOOD Republican. He believes in doing what's best for the country. I've seen his work and I can vouch for him. Still, I can't wait to give him all the latest jokes about Smirk. LMAO.

10. You should have a copy of Unprecedented or the Fox documentary
just running quietly in the background while the guy is there. Or keep Fog of War and play that. Sneak a little information into his head.

13. Information in the head...
... IS where imagination comes from.

President Kennedy was well-read. He had a profound understanding of history and human nature. His extensive travels and friendships gave him a direct knowledge of the world and its people. He used these to create the "Vision Thing" Shrub is missing.

BTW: In the past month, I've seen the three best documentaries I can remember: "Fahrenheit 9-11," "The Corporation" and "The Fog of War."

Thank you for the heads-up on "Fog," regarding our thread. The voice recordings documented the War Party at work. And today I am more certain than ever that LBJ did play a role in the assassination of President Kennedy.
