11. that statement
was supposedly one of the intercepted AQ messages that had not been translated yet before Sept11. Another was about
'the match is set' or something like that.

This info was quashed shortly afterwards, and went into the memory hole.

12. No, he didn't
Let's get rational, folks.

He let slip pre-9/11 intel that contained that information. Here's a story from 2002.

Shelby: Public needs to know committee findings

"This is something the Congress, to its credit, these four leaders, feel strongly about," the senior official said. "It is a federal crime to disclose information of this type, and Congress made it a crime because of the impact such disclosure can have on national security."

<snip>

But Sen. Richard Shelby, the ranking minority member on Senate Intelligence Committee, said the public needed to know about the lapses -- even though he signed the letter sent to Attorney General John Ashcroft.

"I do believe that the American people need to know a lot about the shortcomings of our intelligence community, but they also need to know the good things that are going on, and what we are going to do in this investigation, I believe, is bring out the best of both," Shelby, R-Alabama, said.

8. Republican Senator from Alabama
But he's gone "off the reservation" a few times too many, been quite critical of Bush on occasion.

21. couldn't find anything on this
however, I did find this over at Newsmax.

Seems Shelby was still trying to push the Clinton-turned-down-the-Sudanese-offer-of-Bin-Laden story:

23. Richard Shelby is the Sr. Senator from Alabama
He used to be a Dem but switched parties about 10 years ago, which pissed me off to no end. But anyway, he has had an intense, INTENSE, hatred of George Tenet for years--it began during Big Dog's administration. He felt he (Tenet) was an incompetent idiot and tried to get him fired countless times--his enmity toward Tenet is very well known. I'm wondering if this investigation is a result of some payback by the CIA. I'm only guessing, of course, but interesting, yes?

24. I searched and couldn't find anything either
But saw the same "Countdown" piece on MSNBC.

What he was under investigation for was in regards to leaking the information that there was intelligence before 9/11, the quote I've heard that was bugged or however the CIA got it, "The match begins tomorrow." That being 9/11. Interesting that they would be getting him for devulging that. Must be payback for something else?

The next thing you know, we'll find out that terrorists wanted to fly planes into buildings!

25. As I hinted in my post
I think the CIA is behind it--they are giving payback to Shelby for his Tenet witch hunting. I wonder who else is in line for some payback from them?
