I am so tired of the way the media is spinning the DNC in Boston
every story I've seen about it all week only talks about what a nightmare the security is going to cause for Bostonians, implying that Democrats are just coming in and taking over the city and trying to destroy the local economy ... just now on Countdown, they made sure to interview working class types (a barber, a waitress, a liquor store owner, etc.) who were lamenting the loss of business during the convention ... story upshot: "Democrats hate the working class." ARRGGHHH!!!!!!!

1. Let's hope they show the speeches
because they will be good. BTW, more and more folks I know just stop watching news, because they know they can't trust it.

2. If there's a way
to spin the Dem convention in a bad way, the mediawhores will find it. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. That's why I'm watching on c-span! Don't look forward to the repuke callers though!

3. My company is all set to work from home next week
And others probably are too. So the traffic may not be as bad as expected

5. personally I love hearing AEI flacks like Bill Schneider...
... demanding that the Democrats must be moderate, not overly critical of Bush, etc etc.

Because Bill Schneider knows best!

6. On CSPAN the owner of "Half Time Pizza" was excoriating the DNC
for disrupting things. They then showed his "Bush-Cheney" signs on camera and he admitted he voted for Bush. :eyes: Then they showed a huge banner over his storefront saying "Thanks for Nothing DNC - Go Bush" as if he isn't doing this because he is a Bush supporter. I am hereby suggesting that folks go to his business and let him know what they think of his tactics. I would not buy his pizza either. The DNC will be over in a week, but he has to stay there after-wards. I think he may have made a rather large mistake in a very liberal city. JMHO though!

10. Many are Democrats too
my whole large family with seasons tickets to both teams will not be patronizing his pizza place, and we'll spread the word.

11. Try living in Massachusetts
All we hear about is how awful the traffic's going to be, how no one can get anywhere, etc. If it was going to be such a pain in the ass, why did Boston even try to get the DNC? This is a big deal, folks. You should enjoy the attention this great city is getting.

12. Typical negative, glass-is-half-empty, Boston attitude
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 11:50 AM by RationalRose
I live in the city and I don't care about a few inconveniences. :eyes:

Anyone that is used of driving in bad weather should view this as a no-brainer.

I'm sick of the media chicken little attitude!

13. Similar thing happened here during the Olympics
all the news talked about for months before was how disruptive the Olympics were going to be to the city proper.

It was a total nothing burger. It didn't happen. No disruption. The biggest problem was that locals were told to stay out of the city and restaurants catering to the lunch crowd were hurt. But if you talked to them they said it was worth to have the Olympics here.

GOP/partisan owners of businesses are gonna be pissed. Just as I would be if it were the GOP convention. It's a good lesson for Dem business owners in NY. If you complain too loudly about the GOP convention you'll look like a partisan hack, like the pizza shop guy in Boston.

14. Why on earth would any city want to host a convention then?
OH YEAH THAT IS RIGHT, BECAUSE THE PEOPLE COME AND SPEND MILLIONS! Sheesh...Yeah having a huge crowd is a pain (Can we say Superbowl?) but it is a great boost to the local economy. Too bad I live in Arizona and they say "july in phoenix for the convention...hmmmmm...Nah, we will go where it is cool"
heehee
