"Democrat Party"? - let's clarify our name
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 12:14 AM by yellowdawg
Fox and Clear Channel have been using it for months, and today shrub uttered it during his address to the Urban League and got away with it.

We are the **Democratic Party**, not the Democrat Party. I suggest we refer to them as the "Republic Party" until they can get it right.

1. Yes, I would be a bit annoyed if someone were to call me a
"Gree". Or an "Olive"

So, "Republic Party" it is! *lol*

Those that control language control thought.

And Rush has been the one perpetuating it all this time.

It's sad more people don't realize how ignorant it makes them sound.

8. I've even heard big-name Democrats fall into the trap
I don't remember specifically who, but big-time Democrats. When I remember who they are, we should have Skittles kick their asses. ;)

13. Reminds me of a professor...
My first semester of college, I had a poli-sci professor who was the wife of our district's Democratic representative to the House. (He later switched to the Republicans, btw.) It was supposed to be some kind of honor to be able to take a class with her.

This was wrong on so many levels. Besides the fact she didn't know a thing about political science, or at least did nothing in class that let us know she did, she was also so ignorant of proper English usage that even I, a freshman English major, was forced to argue for points she'd penalized me on my essays for supposed grammatical errors. During one incident, I got the head of the English department to give her a call because of how stupid and stubborn she was being.

It was my first real lesson in the corruptive influence of power. Her husband was a Big Man, so, in her mind, that naturally made her right about everything.

I am pleased to add that she was not granted tenure and is currently unemployed.

7. Joe McCarthy used the same term back in the '50s...
Meant to depict the Democrats as "undemocratic". The present-day McCarthyites are more successful than the original. But they cannot bring themselves to utter the word "Democratic"...

10. We could piss them off by sneaking it in with the small "d"...
such as, We are a political Party that believes in democratic values and democratic ideas. We believe in the Webster's definition of "democratic" - we are not snobbish. We believe in treating all classes equally. That is why we call ourselves the Democratic Party. :) Smile and go on our way...

9. An alternative approach:

Just draw attention to what this really means : that Republicans hate democracy so much that they can't even utter the word "democratic". Showcase it as their party's "permanent Freudian slip".

For example:

"Seriously, just watch them. Even when they talk about something like the Democratic Party, they still can't even bring themselves to utter that word 'Democratic' that they hate so much. They always say 'Democrat Party' instead. It's a dead giveaway."

11. I have this other plan:
Me: Have you been brainwashed?

Freeper: Hell No!

Me: Then what is the name of the party I belong to?

F: Why, the Democrat Party, of course.

Me: No, fuckwad. It's the Democratic Party and your brain has obviously been stone washed and hung out to dry.
