4 more legislative proposals against gays by house republicans
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 12:29 AM by roguevalley

(There is just no bottom to their evil)

House Republicans propose FOUR MORE gay-bashing bills
by John in DC - 12:51 PM

They hate gays, period. They're willing to risk us getting AIDS so they can pander to the radical right, and they sure as hell don't want us to be in happy, loving, monogamous relationships. This is what we get with four more years of Bush. I don't care what anyone says about John Kerry - yeah, he's bad on gay marriage, who isn't? - there is NO WAY Kerry is going to be 1/10th as bad as these hateful Republican bigots. Time to clean house, then we can work on bringing our own folks up to speed.

From the Human Rights Campaign:

The House Committee on the Judiciary today marked up the so-called Marriage Protection Act (H.R. 3313) - a bill that purports to strip the federal courts of jurisdiction over challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act. The committee reported the bill to the full House by a vote of 21 to 13. A vote in the House is expected the week of July 19, 2004.

Two other bills were marked up today by the House Committee on Appropriations. One measure, the fiscal year 2005 D.C. appropriations bill, already prevents District of Columbia officials from using federal and local funds to operate scientifically proven HIV/AIDS prevention programs and prohibits federal funds from being used to implement a limited domestic partnership program in the nation's capital.

It is expected that language further prohibiting the ability of the district to make its own policies on marriage recognition may be added to the D.C. Appropriations bill during later consideration on the House floor.

Just above it is this gem: Gays are trees.

Apparently, the Republicans now think gays are no better than trees. At least that's what their secret talking points (obtained from a friend) for today's latest legislative gay-bashing in the US House of Representatives say.

The theory goes: In the past Congress has taken rights away from trees, so it's only logical they do the same to loving gay couples. Uh huh. That's certainly taking the dehumanizing of gays to a new low. I guess by Republican logic we already burn one "faggot" in the fireplace, so why not burn the other legislatively.

Here's the snippet from the talking points:

"Senate Minority Leader Daschle has supported provisions that became part of Public Law 107-206 that would deny all federal courts jurisdiction over the procedures governing timber projects in order to expedite forest clearing. If Congress can deny all federal courts the authority to hear a class of cases to protect trees, certainly it should do so to protect a state's marriage policy."

SNIP!

Hope this isn't a dupe. :)

3. another post from farther up

Right-wing Web site credits 'outing' campaign for killing gay-bashing amendment
by John in DC - 1:04 AM

Whether or not the outing campaign had any effect on the amendment, a leading writer for the far right thinks it did, and he's ticked about it. And that, my friends, is a good thing:

A proposed constitutional amendment to protect marriage between a man and a woman will probably not receive the two-thirds vote it needs to pass the Senate. Senators John Kerry and John Edwards will vote against it. A supporter of the proposal says, "A two-thirds vote is a difficult margin to achieve in the current Senate on anything even remotely controversial." But if and when it goes down to defeat, the outcome should be attributed at least in part to a vicious and nasty''outing' campaign against closeted gays in the House and Senate, including members and staffers.

SNIP!

Read some of the articles about the guys outed before you weigh in on whether or not it was deserved. Amazing, these guys.

6. This blog is great. Here are three speakers at the RN Convention:
Hastert
Brownback
and ... drum roll! ... your favorite repug and mine:

Rick Santorum.

I can't wait. Remember when Buchanan got up and scared the crap out of America? It lost them the election. These guys should be just the ticket.

7. Latest Rasmussen Congress poll: Dem 46, GOP 37.
This is a poll from a biased Republican.

That translates into a turnaround as big as 1994.

The Pugs can propose all they want.

No one cares.

10. we have to stop this nonsense.
we have to put gay-rights at the very forefront of our agenda.

I believe that the majority of Americans do not share this animosity toward gay people. We should frame this as a civil rights issue and make everyone aware that the Repugs are trying to marginalize people. I think this will back fire against them big time if we fight!

12. What
about poor people losing their homes?
Some of us poor people are GB LT,disabled and poor both..
Gay bashing is ugly but it sucks even worse when you have no home to find solace in or safety in.As more people get too poor to afford food or heat or a home, and more closer to the poverty line scared of losing everything, frustrated people will seek scapegoats for their misplaced aggression(they dare not bite the hands that steal from them(bosses landlords and legislators),it won't be pretty.

Don'tcha get it,the draconian effects of poverty issues REALLY do matter,to gays straights everyone who wants a sane, diverse and egalitarian society.
These vicious wealthy sociopath repugs hate gays that's for certain, but they are not kicking gay people out of their homes...quite yet.
If you don't help the poor out and fight along side them the republican theocracy who think wealth is a god given right, will get around to evicting gays after they have destroyed the rights and social safety nets for homeless, disabled mentally ill, poor and any brown skinned people they can screw who are disabled, poor or resistant to being controlled and used and abused by rich people looking to exploit more out this entire society by using poverty and scarcity to get people gay or straight to sell themselves into something akin to slavery to have a home..WE are being made expendable and the games of eugenics have begun,Remember Hitler killed the homeless, mentally ill and disabled first. And some assholes still think GB LT is a mental or worse a moral illness. The same thing they say about poverty.. .The next "defectives"in line to be cast out of their perfect rich and 'middle classed, theocratic society left after those populations. It seems some gays ignore the kinds of people listed above. How long until more are suffering or made homeless only to be kicked around by cops.Next in line are gays. The repug freaks refuse to let you marry now? What if you have no affordable home to start a family in? What then? What if you lkose your jobs and cat get another one because there are none? Poverty will effect you eventually if you let this administration refuse to make housing affordable for the poor, and shred the safety net for all to bits, poverty and it's effects will come to your backyard, your home.

These insane republicans can never have too much money, control, power or people to victimize. They will not stop thier exploitation of this nation until they are forced to.
They are hitting the poor and disabled people with the financial theft bomb first, So folks what class of people have to get hurt next and be put out on the street to be abused before you stand beside them? Do the poor have to wait until you are evicted out the door or some GBLT friend of yours before it occurs to you to stand up for your own social safety net?
Well GBLT people are poor too.I am one.
WAKE UP people and get some solidarity on this one,Please.
