Richard Clarke this a.m.: Berger "malicious"? "Fictitious!"
This morning on Scott Simon's show on NPR, Richard Clarke said that there are so many copies -- all over Washington -- of the documents Sandy Berger is alleged to have removed from the National Archives that the notion that his actions were "malicious" is simply "fictitious."

Berger would have known there were copies all over the place, Clarke was saying, so taking those documents on purpose wouldn't have done him any good (even if he wanted to hide the information in them). So why would he have bothered?

Will we hear this in any other media? Probably, no.

I realize Berger is Clarke's former boss, and, as such, may be covering for him. But shouldn't someone check into what Clarke said, about copies of the documents being all over Washington?

1. Yes the
documents were copies. When you visit the archive, you aren't allowed to handle the originals. There is no way to insert any new documents when you return them to the file 'cause the original set would be different.

It's all RWing trash talk to deflect & distract. Unfortunately, a lot of folks will believe this BS.

2. It's almost funny watching the media whores discuss this
story w/o statng the obvious: THEY WERE COPIES! I just saw one of the weekend MSNBC idiots working very hard at making the issue as clear as mud. There's a potential drinking game here...or maybe just the need for a drink.

4. the "sock stuffing" never happened
I can't find any credible source. It was spread by the likes of Coulter, Hannity and Drudge, and has Rove written all over it and smells alot like the "Kerry/Intern" non-story they spread this spring. I wish Berger would sue them.

5. I nominate Richard Clarke for new position of "media czar"
We need someone who annnounces to the world what is bullshit and what is not.

Richard Clarke is perfect for this.

Of course the media will ignore him.
