From now on Trial Lawyers are Public Protection Lawyers
"John Edwards was a public protection lawyer."

"Republicans don't like trial lawyers because they are public protection lawyers."

"Hey, if by trial lawyer you mean did I try to protect the little man in a court of law, well I guess by that definition, I was a public protection trial lawyer."

Two sides can play this game.

1. The swimming pool story usually shuts them up.
Next time someone criticizes Edwards for being a "trial lawyer" just tell the story of the little girl who got her intestines sucked out by a defective swimming pool, who Edwards collected a large settlement for.

People hate lawyers until they need them.

2. They plan on using the "trial lawyer" strategy so this is important....
that we "frame" this issue in a truer perspective.

3. Trial lawyers don't all have a bad rep
Look at the ones seen on TV. Matlock, Perry Mason, etc, etc. If anyone objects to trial lawyers, and are of the older set, I remind them of these fictional TV guys-and then talk of who Edwards was working for.

4. Citizens Lawyer vs Corporate Lawyer
I think there's too many syllables in Public Protection Lawyer and it won't work as a meme. Lakof was just talking off the top of his head on Moyers.

Somebody come up with a perfect zingy phrase, please.

People's Lawyer? I like it, but anti-commies will have a field day with it.
